“We often learn the most from people who think most differently from us.” How many times can it be said, yet ignored: it’s the right thing to do and it’s good for business? So I’ll quote it yet again, ignore at your peril: “Teams that were gender and geographically diverse, and had at least one age gap of 20 years or more, made better decisions than individuals 87 percent of the time. If you’ve ever called a grandparent for advice or tested an idea with a skeptical teenager, you get what this research was trying to quantify. We often learn the most from people who think most differently from us.” #dei #leadership #nyt #hbr #diversity

reading an article by John Kania, Managing Director at FSG, and Mark Kramer, Co-founder of FSG and Kennedy School at Harvard, I recognized the significance of Collective Impact in organizations, business models, community projects, and initiatives.Collective impact emphasizes the idea that for organizations to address social problems on a large scale, they must coordinate efforts and collaborate around a clearly defined goal. This contrasts with "isolated impact," where organizations work independently. It draws on collaborative leadership, focusing on collective goals, strategic partnerships, shared accountability, and a backbone institution. Organizations form cross-sector coalitions to make sustainable progress on social issues.I often ponder how we can collaborate despite our personalities and positions,

I had SUCH an awesome 1-month follow-up call with our Towerscope Leadership Academy Founding Members as we reflected back on gaps, gains, and goals. We explored questions like: - How would you describe 2023 and 2024 in two words each? - What will you need to let go of or dial up from 2023 to get what you want in 2024? - What are you most proud of from 2023 that you want to hold on to? - How do you celebrate it? We applied frameworks, like the Goals Grid to ensuring we balance out our desire to achieve with the importance of preserving, eliminating, or avoiding things that might take away from what we want. They pointed out positive changes they saw in themselves each other over time over the course of our time together... Just. WOW. These amazing women are an inspiration and the insights they have openly shared with this community continues to take my breath away. Please do not let this opportunity pass by. Apply to join our community. Even if you aren't sure whether it's the right fit, you have nothing to lose by applying - we will spend 20 minutes talking together to review the criteria and see if it's a good fit. If it's not a good fit, you will know right away. If it is a good fit, then you can decide if you are ready to jump in and surround yourself in a supportive community of people committed to helping each other grow. Sagarika S. THE GENERATIONAL GAP….. … is real. It can impact everything we do in the workplace as well as society. And yet, we often approach inclusion, equity and diversity in the workplace in the same way irrespective of generational differences. But those differences need to be understood, and we need to adjust what we are saying and doing based on those differences. But we also need to remember what connects us… - A need for recognition - A need for connection - A need for enriching conversations - A need for belonging - A need to be loved - … and lamb - https://lnkd.in/evf8um5d! Well, maybe not lamb :) And the fact is that, as someone in their fifties, I realise I have so much to learn from Gen Z who often bring a very different perspective. It’s why I have applied to volunteer for a youth club and am always looking for opportunities to connect with the younger generation. As my good friend and ex business partner, Nadya Powell, wrote in our Creative Superpowers book: “The young have relevance, the old the ability to influence. Knowledge and experience are equal for both: ‘younger and older, wiser’ is the refrain to repeat. To get the benefit of their diverse perspectives the most important thing is to enable both to have an equal voice in the room.” It’s why co-mentoring is so important. I think every leader should be doing it. By pairing a senior leader with someone who is different from them, and ideally from a historically marginalised group, they can learn so much about what needs to change. So who are you learning from? And how are you ensuring the younger generation in your business has an equal voice? #generationalgap #connections #microballroom
