💼 I had a fascinating day at the Women in Payments EMEA Symposium 2024 held at the De Vere Grand Connaught Hotel in London. A few breakout sessions were based on Gen Z in the workplace and how companies can foster an inclusive environment for them. Gen Z brings forth fresh innovations that drive organisational advancement. Many of us navigated university life during the Covid era, altering the way we interact compared to previous generations. With Gen Z firmly establishing itself in the workforce, it's imperative for organisations to adapt and embrace this demographic. Fatma Tatli, Bank of America mentioned in the panel session, ‘Too young to lead - you are kidding, right?’, “for every 100 men only 87 women are promoted.”, but it gets worse… for women of colour it’s only 82 women. There is a promotion gap issue at hand and it’s for both women and allies to step up and make change, which is why events like this and Trade Finance Global (TFG)’s annual Women in Trade, Treasury and Payments event is so important. 📱💳 The need for technology and collaboration within the payments industry also was in focus. “Banks are often competing with tech companies”, shows the fast pace at which banks and financial institutions are needing to implement new technological advancements to protect both themselves and consumers from fraudulent activities. Conversations were also based around how consumer behaviour is heavily affecting the payments industry, and the positive and constructive impacts that come with this. Overall, it was a delight connecting with inspiring women and reflecting on the day. Now, on my way home, I'm taking advantage of what today’s conference called a "productive moment" to share these highlights with you all. #WomenInPayments #GenZ #Payments

The Heard: Spokesperson index goes global as it reaches 100 speakers Chantal Swainston, Founder of The Heard: “Since launch, we had an influx of requests to extend this outside of the UK, and now we’re doing just that. While I know it doesn’t magically solve the lack of representation in the sector, it is actively shining a light on women and non-binary people who are already doing brilliant work. We’re also supporting events, publications and platforms as they work hard to make sure they represent everyone involved in the industry. The index alone isn’t an immaculate solution. Things like training and encouraging colleagues to take on more public-facing opportunities is crucial in building a better environment for women to contribute to the conversation. I truly hope 2024 will be a strong year for women and non-binary representation in fintech media.” https://lnkd.in/ef_cYvAA #FFNews #Fintech #Finance #Banking #Paytech #Payments #Insurtech #Insurance

FinovateSpring was a great event! I spoke on the Women in Fintech Briefing: How Can We All Make Sure We're Moving The Needle? We covered how tech, remote work, and the pandemic have impacted attracting and retaining female talent, DE&I within commercial strategy and value, mentorships, and professional development for women at different life stages. One of my favorite talks at the conference was the Fintech Power Panel on Financial Institution Partnerships. Here are my key takeaways: ♦ Banks' Decision to Build or Buy: Banks face the dilemma of building in-house solutions versus buying from fintechs, especially when new technologies emerge. Internal talent and the complexity of partnerships influence this decision. ♦ Partnership Necessity: Building fintech solutions internally is often time-consuming for banks. Partnering with nimble fintechs can significantly impact business operations and efficiency. ♦ Comprehensive Organizational Buy-In: Senior sponsorship alone isn't sufficient for successful partnerships. Broad buy-in across the organization, with a clear understanding of benefits for both the organization and its customers, is essential. Continuous engagement post-partnership is crucial. ♦ Navigating Long-Term Partnerships: Collaborating with financial institutions is a lengthy process. Understanding the institution's priorities and securing the right internal sponsor are key. ♦ Clarity and Expectations: Financial institutions must provide clear timelines and expectations at the outset to streamline the partnership process. ♦ Beyond Vendor Relationships: Fintechs must offer more value than just being a vendor. By investing in the partnership, they can influence the product roadmap and drive mutual benefits. ♦ Selling to Banks: Banks scrutinize potential partners for longevity and reliability. Fintechs need to demonstrate their ability to sustain operations long enough to achieve commercialization, typically taking around a year. Is there anything I missed on financial institution partnerships? I'd love to hear your thoughts. #fintechpartnerships #fintechinnovation
