We know that social class, more than any other diversity demographic investigated, is the most strongly linked to Australian workers’ experience of inclusion at work and one of the most strongly linked to exclusion. Our #ClassAtWork research found that: ◾ 'Lower' class workers are less likely to experience inclusion, ◾ 'Lower' class workers are more likely to experience exclusion, ◾ When gender and class intersect, lower class women are more excluded but more supportive of D&I and lower class men are less included and less supportive of D&I and tend to be in less D&I active organisations. This week is Construction Inclusion Week, a week dedicated to highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the construction industry. GCON strives to build a team that is made up of individuals from a variety of backgrounds, gender, age and race. This week we hope to go beyond spreading awareness about the importance of diversity and share our equity and inclusion strategies. Having inclusive leaders taking charge of team initiatives is a game changer in the construction industry. At GCON, our leaders allow team members to speak up and share their differing thoughts and opinions on work projects. SDGs 4, 5, 8, and 10 all embody the values and principles of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Research at Anglia Ruskin University however shows that women and Blacks are grossly underrepresented within the UK construction industry, both on site and at corporate leadership levels. The study of the 40 top UK contractors showed females make up less than a third of senior management, with only two Black females and no Black male representatives at this level at all.  The question, as we end 2024, is, how does the top-most leadership in your firm measure up in terms of women and black representation at the highest level of leadership and what needs to be done to ensure more equity in leadership?
