When it comes to #tech or #business conferences broadly, it's the *connecting* and engagement in the rooms, the halls and on the walk/walks or at the amazing party on a boat. Women In Tech Regatta outdid themselves, and I was *so psyched* to have had the opportunity to experience it for the first time through programming our inaugural year of #ClimateTech sessions (the Climate Tech "port"). Women Who Code (WWC) has announced it is shutting down because of a lack of funding I've been in WWC for less than a year, and this news just broke my heart. According to the latest data, women held 35% of tech jobs in the U.S. at the end of 2023, indicating clear inequality. So, what does the closure of WWC say about our society? Firstly, it indicates a lack of funding to support women in the tech industry, hindering the creation of equal opportunities and their participation in the field. Secondly, the closure of WWC highlights the issue of male dominance in the tech sector, where almost all major firm leaders are men. This points to inequality and a lack of diversity in the industry, which can lead to limited diversity and innovation. Society should strive to create a more inclusive environment where women have equal opportunities and support for professional growth in the tech sector. This organization executed more than 16,000 free events worldwide, garnered a membership exceeding 343,000, and delivers programming to members in 147 countries. I've been both supported by and a supporter of others. It hurts deeply that now many women won't be able to find their support, and I'm also horrified by how it will affect the IT field. I want to believe that society realizes the importance of such organizations and that they will exist not based on handouts and donations but will be sponsored by the government. #womenwhocode #wwc #feminism
