The last two days had been great at the #datafestival. Here is what impressed me most: 💡One of my favorite and most inspiring talks was on AI for public interest by Theresa Zueger. She introduced us to great examples of AI for good, but also how difficult it is to get continuous funding. 📖 Another great talk with an amazing storyline from opera to a vibrant data culture was by Susanne Weßel-Therhorn. My key takeaways are to acknowledge user anxiety and enable a go-to place where beginners are valued as drivers for success. Also a big thank you to my colleagues Mustika Rizki Fitriyanti Lennart Reschke Jakob Elsässer #teamZEISS, all the new like-minded people I met 🦹♀️, the interesting introduction to new platforms👩🏼💻, valuable panel discussions and the organizers for the great event 🎤🎉. Conferences always remind me of my time as a PhD student. It is always a blast 🚀😍. I just miss the poster sessions - maybe an idea for next year Carsten Bange ? #data #gettingrealwithai

✨ Introducing Accessible AI for All! ✨ Join us on September 17th for our inaugural event. As a woman of color in tech, I’ve experienced the isolation firsthand—being in rooms where your voice doesn’t feel heard or valued. The imposter syndrome hits hard when you’re constantly second-guessed, overlooked, or measured by standards that don’t reflect your true abilities. Women, especially women of color, communicate and approach tech differently, and that difference is too often misunderstood. In partnership with Esosa Ighodaro, we’re launching an initiative to empower women of color through AI literacy, offering learning paths, community support, workshops, and events. This is why Accessible AI for All exists. We’re creating a space where you don’t just belong—you thrive. Starting with AI Basics for Founders on Sept 17th, we’re helping you harness AI to build, scale, and lead with confidence. Link to sign up here: https://lnkd.in/ezbuQ9me Tech wasn’t built for us, but together, we can make it work for us. 💪🏽 P.S. Have you ever felt invisible in a room? Let’s change that.

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Ethnic Xchange Symposium alongside the wonderful Kirsti Grant. Side note: neither of us can take selfies to save our lives - so this was never going to be the best photo. Big thanks to Hon Melissa LEE for a fantastic day and putting together such a thought provoking event. We’re looking forward to being back again next year. Two big takeaways from me: 1. The focus on harnessing AI for economic growth - there are so many benefits to AI and as a country we really need to take hold of them. Last year Auror commissioned some research by Talbot Mills, and we found that only 18% of people believe businesses are well placed to harness AI for growth. Some work to do there, and that's why we published our Responsible Tech and AI framework. It was also said on the day that AI also can provide the greatest value in life threatening situations. Absolutely agree. As a company focused on public safety, we know that nearly 80% of Kiwis want to see AI used to stop crime. Hon Judith Collins KC MP had some fantastic insights on AI being used for good on the day. 2. Leveraging our diversity for economic development - this is essential. Through Kirst’s leadership, we know that we need to reflect the communities we live in - which means our DEI framework is integrated into everything we do, especially our Responsible Tech and AI framework. I’m so proud of how these two frameworks complement each other so seamlessly. There’s always more to do though!

Starting tomorrow night (Fri Oct 18) in #Baltimore, we're hosting an AI hackathon for equity, where participants will explore how AI can be harnessed to identify, reduce, and ultimately eliminate bias in our #news, #information and #media landscape. Over on X, Ted Benson has already started considering this question, noting "Simply asking an LLM to explain its decisions reduced racial bias by an average of 8% in a small experiment I did. Another good reason for "think step by step.." style prompts. Write-up + code in the comments!
