Silence sustains systems. Advocacy rebuilds them. 🔨 As professionals, we have the power and responsibility to turn allyship into actionable equity. Here’s how: 1. SPEAK UP (and Back It Up) → Use your platform to spotlight systemic issues, share data, tag policymakers, and collaborate with ERGs. → Example:Partner with marginalized-led NGOs to co-create content. 2. Move Beyond ‘Awareness’ to Accountability → Support petitions, fund grassroots legal funds, and push for transparent DEI metrics at work. → Stat:72% of employees trust companies more when leaders publicly advocate for equity. 3. Disrupt the Everyday → Call out microaggressions in meetings. Redirect budgets to minority vendors. Mentor underrepresented talent. → Pro tip: If you see inequity, name it. Silence is complicity. 4. Amplify, Don’t Appropriate → Credit marginalized voices. Endorse their work. Buy from their businesses. → Resource list: Link to EIN’s directory of minority-led orgs 📈 Advocacy isn’t a moment, it’s a multiplier. Every policy we shift, every resource we redirect, and every voice we amplify creates ripples far beyond our feeds. 👉 Your turn: Which of these steps can you commit to this month? Let’s discuss below. 👇 #LeadershipForEquity #InclusiveSystems #CorporateAdvocacy

Where are you choosing smallness out of safety? That’s one of the questions I posed during the Lunch Retreat for women in business last week. You may be successful in many areas of your work, yet still choose to hold yourself back, not try something new, pause in sending out your resume or an invoice. Out of feeling scared, not good enough, not ready. If that resonates, notice when you feel safer staying small. Is there a specific trigger? Then take care of the part of you that needs extra safety, needs to know that no matter what happens you will still have your own back. There will always be other options. More chances. You can go slow and still take steps. If you want help figuring it out, message me or schedule a chat at calendly.com/simplyleap. We’re in this together. 💕

We recently published our latest case study of a project that I led. In it, I helped an AI policy and advocacy nonprofit to develop its communications strategy & advocacy profile, trained them on speaking to the media, and provided on-demand preparation for media interviews and op-ed editing. Does this sound like something your organization could use help with? Reach out to me for a free evaluation. #communications #AI #artificialintelligence #policy #media #strategy
Case study: Turning complex policy ideas into effective AI policy advocacy In the fall of 2023, an AI policy nonprofit was struggling to reach key policymakers with its messages on the risks of powerful AI systems and policies to assure safety. Turning complex policy messages into engaging media content can greatly boost an organization's voice and impact, but getting it right can take a lot of attention to detail. Future Matters developed a communications strategy to raise awareness of both the organization and its specific policy messages. This included: 🔵 Identifying key messages 🔵 Selecting spokespeople from within the organization and its network of partners 🔵 Targeting media with the greatest potential impact 🔵 Comprehensive media engagement training for TV, audio and print media 🔵 Strategic advice and feedback on op-eds Future Matters' strategic and training interventions improved the quality of the nonprofit's media engagement. They reached a variety of media outlets that are widely read among relevant policymakers. Staff gained confidence and expertise in handling media interactions, resulting in successful interviews and more accessible messaging in their advocacy efforts. Encouraged by these positive results, the nonprofit requested on-demand media training for specific media opportunities. In several sessions over the past few months, Future Matters prepared the advocates for their media appearances. Each training session resulted in a successful interview. Future Matters also improved the quality of the advocates' written work, such as op-eds, by providing strategic advice on what topics to discuss and how to convey those messages in the most compelling way. Looking to increase the impact of your advocacy organization? Future Matters offers strategic communications expertise that can transform your communications efforts. We are always looking to support more impactful efforts and offer a free scoping call to better understand your challenges and how we can help. Please contact us with a brief description of your needs, and we will follow up promptly:

How can people support female founders? ✍ We asked this to some of the inspiring female founders who feature in our 'You've Got What It Takes' campaign. As they say and rightly so, there are so many ways to support female founders this can be anything from following their businesses on socials, being an advocate, and buying from female-founded businesses, the list is endless but everything counts! 💜 Thank you so much to Eva Thorne, Annie Bartley, Jas Schembri-Stothart, Anshika Arora for sharing these with us below 👇 Emmie Faust | YeahNice.

WHY THE LADIES COFFEE CHAT! In 2019, I attended a meeting with managers from a certain company. During this session, each line manager was required to present and defend their annual report. It was a moment of accountability, pressure, and scrutiny. One female manager stepped up to present her report. She had done her work. The report was clear, with only minor errors. Yet, when the questions began, something was different. The room turned on her. She faced harsher scrutiny than any of her male colleagues who had presented before her. I watched as she tried to hold her ground, but the pressure was too much. She broke down in tears. That moment hit me hard. Not because she wasn’t capable, but because the environment around her was anything but supportive. It felt unfair and isolating. It was then I appreciated: even "accomplished women", need safe spaces. Spaces where they can be vulnerable, where their strengths are celebrated, and their struggles understood. This experience coupled with one I had faced earlier (Story for another day), planted a seed within me that saw the birth of The Ladies Coffee Chat. My dream was to build a community for women who dream big and work hard, but also need support, understanding, and empowerment. This is more than an event, it’s a safe and brave place for female go-getters, dreamers, and change-makers. A place where women can be real about their challenges, share their wins, and support each other without judgment. Here, we focus on empowerment, growth, and connection. Together, we’re building a community of women who refuse to shrink back but rise with confidence and purpose.
