March 8th is an international day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It's more about an opportunity to draw attention annually to the importance of women's rights issues rather than just a holiday. In post-Soviet countries, the meaning of International Women's Day has often been wrapped in tulips and vanilla postcards. Some women enjoy this packaging, while others do not, but that should not be a reason to overlook this day as an opportunity to advocate for action to accelerate gender parity. On this day various events, discussions, and initiatives are usually held worldwide to promote women's rights and gender equality. One such event this year is organized by U.N. Women with a call to invest in women to accelerate progress, and we are happily joining this call as getting more Women on Boards is also part of the call to invest in women to accelerate progress! Today, we celebrate International Women's Day, let us pause to consider the incredible strides that women have made in history. Women have proven to be incredibly resilient and determined in the face of hardship, from battling for the right to vote to tearing down boundaries in a variety of industries.
