Health News: Unmasking the unseen! How COVID-19 affects women's sexual health With the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increasing concern about the various impacts on health. While much attention has been given to its physical effects, such as respiratory issues, its impact on sexual health remains understudied, especially in women. A recent research published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine compares sexual function in cisgender women who have had COVID-19, including those with long COVID, and those who haven't been infected, shedding light on potential implications and avenues for healthcare providers. Today is #WorldSeniorCitizensDay, dedicated to honoring and recognizing the contributions of older adults to our societies. This day also presents an opportunity to raise awareness about important yet often overlooked aspects of senior health, including sexual health issues like erectile dysfunction (ED). ED is a common concern among older men, with its prevalence increasing with age. Despite its impact, it remains a topic that is frequently stigmatized or left unaddressed. By celebrating this day, we can: 🔹 Promote Awareness: Shine a light on the importance of addressing ED and other sexual health issues in the elderly population. 🔹 Encourage Open Conversations: Foster a more open dialogue about sexual health to reduce stigma and improve quality of life for seniors. 🔹 Advocate for Better Solutions: Support advancements in treatments and accessibility, ensuring that elderly individuals receive the care and support they need. #PetrosPharma #ElderlyHealth #SexualHealth

Embracing a holistic approach to women’s health - While strides in sexual and reproductive health have been outstanding, they sometimes don’t represent a detailed understanding of women's health. 47% of women's health issues arise from conditions that hit women harder or more frequently, such as depression, headache disorders, etc. There is scope to expand our view and take into account that women's health extends to the unique prevalence and impact of general health conditions. Only then can we address the full spectrum of the challenges they face. The insights from Kweilin Ellingrud, Lucy Perez, Anouk Petersen, and Valentina Sartori guide us to a more inclusive understanding. It's time we match the scope of our care with the breadth of women's health realities. In recognizing the totality of women's health, we unlock the potential for true well-being. There are some great insights into how young adults (18 to 29) use digital and data technologies to improve their sexual, gender and reproductive health in Professor Kath Albury's (Swinburne University of Technology) latest report. One way young adults use these mechanisms is to support their self-advocacy with clinicians ahead of appointments: "Participants who had experienced discrimination or felt dismissed in the past, sought support online to prepare for clinical appointments. This included guidance on appropriate vocabulary. They built confidence through information, shared experiences and evidence via peers (ie. chat forums, social media posts) and more ‘formal’ channels (ie. academic articles, government/non-government health websites)." https://lnkd.in/gu-ghriV #womenshealth
