Technical expert on HIV/STIs and LGBTI+ inclusion, WHO consultant, and recent DrPH graduate from LSHTM
🌍 Today is #SexualHealthDay! This year's theme is Positive Relationships, recognizing the importance of relationships grounded in mutual respect, empathy, and understanding—essential for sexual health and well-being. When it comes to sexually transmitted infections (#STIs), fostering trust and open communication between partners is key to prevention and early detection. Every individual deserves the right to engage in safe, healthy relationships that honour bodily autonomy and promote mutual responsibility for sexual health. Access to comprehensive sexuality education and accurate information empowers people to make informed decisions, protect themselves and their partners, and seek timely sexual and reproductive health services. With over 1 million STIs acquired each day worldwide, it is clear that prioritizing sexual health is essential for both individuals and communities. I remember deleting so many pages of this section of my PhD thesis proposal. Though I had worked so hard, my supervisors did not think, all that background information was necessary. What exactly goes into this section? Is background to the study the same as background to the problem? In detailing the background to the study, we delve into what led to the choice of the chosen research topic. If looking at Sexual Reproductive Health campaigns for instance, what is already known about these campaigns? What topical information is already available?

Today, on World Sexual Health Day, we celebrate the importance of promoting awareness around sexual health, well-being, and rights. I want to stress the need for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to sexual health, one that prioritizes early detection and prevention of diseases like Cervical Cancer. I recently collaborated with the research group on sexual and reproductive health at the University of Cuenca, Ecuador, on a literature review of p16/Ki-67 dual staining as a predictive tool for cervical cancer screening. This research highlights the vital role of advanced diagnostics in protecting women’s health. Let's continue to advocate for accessible and effective healthcare solutions as a fundamental aspect of sexual well-being. Here is the article ➡ https://lnkd.in/dJT2zdHa
