What an honor to lift the leadership of Maria Griffin at our June “Women Sparking Change” event. 🎉 Maria’s dynamic career in social impact and fundraising provided an inspiring set of stories and strategies for fellow leaders who seek to drive transformation. And the nuanced questions crafted by co-moderators Sarah A Cusick, MSW, PCC and Jodi Wolin, offered an opportunity for each of us to reflect on our own leadership pathways and driving sense of purpose. Some of Maria’s wisdom and encouraging words: 💡 On the Concept of Ikigai: It is essentially a Venn diagram of four circles: 1) What you love; 2) What the world needs; 3) What you can be paid for; and 4) What you're good at. Your sweet spot is finding out what is in the center. It's important to identify your unique value add and leadership style. Know what you bring to the world that differentiates you. 💡 On Social Impact and Purpose: I light up when I help build capacity for others to fulfill their work. There are some people who are so clear about the impact that they want to make in a specific community for a specific target audience, and I love rallying by those people. 💡 On the Role of Donors: We know that we have to work with donors in order to support the sustainability of our organizations. The role that they play needs to be very clear and it cannot be overstated or understated. We need to support them in understanding our mission and vision. And be very clear about the impact of their dollars. They are a part of our community that helps us actualize our work. Inspired. Motivated. Activated. Enlightened. Energized. Fearless. These are just a few of the words that a circle of women leaders reflected back to Maria as our session came to a close. Thank you for sharing your very special light with us, Maria! ✨ (And stay tuned for information on our next guest speaker: Stacey Sanders Executive Director and Founder of Elevating Connections Inc.!)

A friendly PSA: International Women's Day is exactly one month away. On behalf of self-identifying women of WORTH Association, here's a list of what NOT to do: 🚩 Don't put all the work on women to organize an event without a budget. Instead, bring allies into the mix and determine how IWD aligns with your DEIB strategy. (You have a strategy, right?) 🚩 Don't post photos of women colleagues without their consent or pressure them to pose in your lobby. Instead, share the specific achievements of women role models in your organization. Positive recognition with permission is a lot better than performative posts. 🚩 Don't ask your Comms team to write a message about how your company "respects women". 🙅♀️ Instead, share the commitments, metrics and objectives you've set in advancing women. Better yet, share the milestones you've reached. 🚩 Don't attempt "You go, girl" campaigns sugarcoating the fact that IWD started as a protest. Instead, educate the whole team on systemic barriers and biases that still exist, especially in recreation, tourism and hospitality. Acknowledge the intersections of age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability that result in overlapping forms of oppression for women. Address how you're committed to closing the gaps. 🚩 Don't just serve Cupcakes. We can do better. At the very least, ask your team how they want to recognize IWD. Perhaps it's a seminar, webinar or some time off to celebrate with women colleagues. If your team wants cupcakes, at least make sure they're purchased from a woman owned bakery. This year's IWD theme is to "Invest in women: Accelerate progress" I can't think of a worthier cause than WORTH Association. We're looking for supporters and sponsors for our inaugural Leadership Summit on May 13th at the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver. Reach out for more information on how your organization can get involved. https://lnkd.in/gZRNB_nM

I was once told that to live a great life, you should dream big, so big it might seem impossible. That's how I chose my impossible dream: flying an airplane. To me, it felt utterly out of reach, and for many years, it truly was. Then, one day, on a hiking trip with some physicists from my lab, I overheard a conversation. A guy in the group was talking about his small airplane pilot training. My curiosity was piqued, and I couldn't help but ask him more – Where do you learn it? What’s it take to get the pilot license? A few months later, there I was, a private pilot, flying a Cessna airplane. We can only achieve as much as we allow ourselves to imagine. If flying hadn't been my 'impossible dream', would I have even noticed that conversation? Probably not. BTW, the guy from the hiking trip? He's now my husband. So, what is your impossible dream? Are there dreams you’re overlooking because you haven't dared to imagine them? If you're intrigued by the idea of challenging 'impossible' dreams and exploring your own vision and purpose, you might find our discussions at the Women Leaders Community interesting. Our cohort on vision and purpose just started this week, and we have four more weeks of insightful sessions ahead. It's not too late to join us. If you sign up by next Tuesday, you can catch up with the first session's recording and be ready for our next live discussion. Curious? Check out more here: https://lnkd.in/gkECgjUX

Why aren’t more men attending events like this? Here’s what they’re missing… In a world where leadership is constantly evolving, true growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones. Yesterday, I had a great time attending the SIM Women event, led by amazing Karin Calde, PhD, CPC, on optimizing life through Energy Leadership. Yes, I was one of the few men there, and guess what? I left feeling energized, more connected, and ready to lead with a fresh perspective. Here’s what stood out to me: ➟ Leadership is not about gender, it’s about energy. ➟ Empowering others starts with empowering yourself. ➟ Every leader has the power to influence and elevate those around them. Why should men attend events like this? Because diverse insights are the key to leading in an inclusive and ever-evolving world. It’s not just about listening—it’s about actively engaging in the conversations that shape the future of leadership for all. Let’s continue to break down barriers and create spaces where everyone’s voice and energy are welcomed. When we lead together, we can achieve more. We had amazing conversations on our table. Thanks Andrea Ballinger, MBA Li Jacobson, MBA Catherine Peloquin Thanks Sacha Basho and her team including Michelle Harrell for putting this together. Thanks ProFocus Technology and Google for sponsoring the event. Great to see you Elyse Rosenberg Breanne Howard (Antonius) Aubrey McCauley Angie Eastman-Aytes PMP Misty Tyler Bonnie Ramirez Abrar Ahmed Jennifer Waldrip Tymalaya Shuell (She/Her) Surekha Reddy Lucy Flores and many others... What are you doing to push the boundaries of your leadership journey? #Leadership #DiversityMatters #EnergyLeadership #InclusiveLeadership #SIMWomen #GrowthMindset #SELFIESABY

I had SUCH an awesome 1-month follow-up call with our Towerscope Leadership Academy Founding Members as we reflected back on gaps, gains, and goals. We explored questions like: - How would you describe 2023 and 2024 in two words each? - What will you need to let go of or dial up from 2023 to get what you want in 2024? - What are you most proud of from 2023 that you want to hold on to? - How do you celebrate it? We applied frameworks, like the Goals Grid to ensuring we balance out our desire to achieve with the importance of preserving, eliminating, or avoiding things that might take away from what we want. They pointed out positive changes they saw in themselves each other over time over the course of our time together... Just. WOW. These amazing women are an inspiration and the insights they have openly shared with this community continues to take my breath away. Please do not let this opportunity pass by. Apply to join our community. Even if you aren't sure whether it's the right fit, you have nothing to lose by applying - we will spend 20 minutes talking together to review the criteria and see if it's a good fit. If it's not a good fit, you will know right away. If it is a good fit, then you can decide if you are ready to jump in and surround yourself in a supportive community of people committed to helping each other grow. Sagarika S.
