I am happy to share that I’ve been nominated by the WOMEN IN TECH ® Global (Europe) for a lifetime Achievement Award together with great figures like Vjollca Çavolli, Honorary President of SEELab, Sasha Baillie and Jacqueline de Rojas CBE. This recognition came as a surprise but it marks a cause that I’ve been devoted to for few decades now – to stimulate more women to choose careers in tech, to be brave for taking leadership roles in corporations and to build their own entrepreneurial projects if they have an inspiration for it. There is still a lot to be done on the topic – the tech enabled industry employs 33% women now but only 19% are in leadership roles and just 2% of the venture money worldwide goes in the female founded companies. This makes the work of WOMEN IN TECH ® Global alongside with a number of initiatives around the globe for motivating women in tech immensely important. Because there is no digital industry anymore - every industry is digitally and technology enables today. The world needs the female talent with its full capacity for securing the tomorrow’s prosperity. Broad Reach Group Inc. President Joanna Davies is currently traveling to Spain for the 2024 Global Summit of Women, being held in Madrid, 9-11 May. The Summit is the premier global business & economic women’s forum, with this year’s theme: “Women: Energizing Economies of the Future.” It is an honour for Joanna to be representing the Ottawa Chapter of the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT) at this prestigious international event!  She is looking forward to making new connections with remarkable women from around the world, contributing to OWIT’s Canadian and Global objectives, and further developing Broad Reach’s international opportunities!  Oh, and the food, can't forget the food!! The summit combines the common vision to dramatically expand women’s economic opportunities globally through exchanges of working solutions, and creative strategies forged by women leaders in different parts of the world. Canada and Spain have common goals in support of the Feminist Foreign Policy, where the implementation of tangible feminist solutions to foreign policy problems are developed. Next week I will be in London to receive a Special Recognition Award from Bola Olabisi FRSA at the Global Women Inventors and Innovation Awards, this year focused on WOMEN DRIVING THE GROWTH OF #SUSTAINABILITY, #RESPONSIBLEINNOVATION & #INCLUSIVITY. I love how diverse these awards are with women nominees from every part of the world and industry - and I’m really looking forward to meeting many of them. A massive congrats to the Global WIIN team as having set up my own awards in the past I know how much time and effort go into them! I tell women to never accept accolades saying they are “humbled” so I am not saying that about this award :) The fact is, I deserve it because over the last 10 years I’ve made huge personal sacrifices in the name of pushing things forward in this space. The more recognition I can get the more pathways I can create for others to be amplified and supported - my life’s work! I’m brave, I’m bold and I’m proud of me. …. Women ARE driving the growth of sustainability, responsible innovation and inclusivity and need to be recognised and connected. Look around … We may be on the brink of a WW3 Climate breakdown is accelerating Much of the world is starving We need new solutions but it’s often made to seem we are still in search of them when for the most part, they have already been invented. We just aren’t hearing from everyone. Inclusivity is not a zero sum game where one sex ‘wins’ another looses, it’s about us all surviving and thriving. I’m 2023 my business partner Tara Stevens and I made the move to rebrand from the Warrior Women Network to WARRIOR GROUP NETWORK, connecting enterprises to our global pioneers from ALL underrepresented groups. I look forward to partnerships with Global WIIN to accelerate the thinking of all past and present winners by connecting them to companies who want to learn what they don’t know from the people they can’t access from the current expert networks, those who only connect to the usual suspects upholding the status quo rather than leading the future. #globalwiin

In digital environments, women are making a significant contribution to the design, development, and creation of technologies, products, and services that are transforming how we interact and operate in the digital age. Their ability to think strategically, their focus on problem-solving, and their creativity are valuable assets that drive innovation and growth in the digital economy. In the field of intellectual property, women are playing an increasingly important role, providing a unique perspective on the protection and management of intellectual property rights. Their ability to identify opportunities, advocate for innovation, and promote creativity contributes not only to the development of new ideas and products but also to the protection of the intangible assets that drive the knowledge economy. In summary, the active participation and leadership of women in digital environments and intellectual property protection are crucial for driving innovation, fostering diversity, and ensuring a sustainable and equitable future in the global digital economy. It is essential to recognize and value the significant contributions that women make in these fields and to continue to promote their participation and empowerment to build a more inclusive and prosperous digital world for all. No More Excuses How can we, as men, learn more about equality and diversity? Sometimes, the best way to grow is to step out of your comfort zones and really listen to perspectives that are different from our own. If we don't challenge ourselves, we stop learning 💡 I'm on this journey myself, I'm trying, I'm learning, and I've already picked up a lot along the way. But this isn't something we can do alone. We need to do it together 🤝🏼 Recently, I was inspired by a LinkedIn-post from Aaron Kroon, who is nominated as a finalist and is Sweden's representative in the Nordic Women in Tech Awards in the "Women in Tech Ally" category. He says 💬 Being an ally is not difficult, but despite that, we, men, are conspicuously absent from female spaces. The excuses for us men not to get involved are many. To many, like these: Excuse: "I don't want to take space away from a woman." Excuse: "I don't know enough about the subject." Excuse: "I already work at an equal company." Excuse: "It's not my problem." But the opportunities to make a difference are even more. So let's drop the excuses and step forward now. 📸 International Female Founders Are Job Engine for Germany… Even During a Crisis! At the "Summit 2024 für internationale Entrepreneurinnen," organized by SIE gründet e.V.- Verband internationaler Entrepreneurinnen in Deutschland, Armando García Schmidt, Project Manager at Bertelsmann Stiftung, shared these statistics, highlighting the positive impact of international female entrepreneurs on the German economy and society. Even during times of crisis, we are growing as an active and important group that deserves more support and visibility. 🤝 This event made me feel connected, as I realized that many of the challenges I’ve faced as an international entrepreneur—such as cultural shifts, language barriers, and different business practices—are also experienced by other women. Entrepreneurship can often be a lonely path, but meeting so many women navigating the same challenges gave me renewed energy and ideas to continue my work as an entrepreneur. It was especially inspiring to see women from different parts of the world who have taken their businesses to very advanced levels of development.  🌱 👩💼 Imposter syndrome This is something many of us struggle with, especially when we feel that, as immigrants and women, the expectations are even higher. In this sense, I found Meri Khazaradze’s reflection particularly resonant. The founder of @Mexb.ai pointed out that our “perfectionist female approach” can often cause us to miss opportunities by waiting until we feel 100% ready before launching. The European Prize for Women Innovators support innovative women entrepreneurs. Having a breakthrough innovation, provides a solution for a real life problem and has a huge impact for human/planet and of course being a role model for yound women and girls. European Prize for Women Innovators has three main categories: -In the EIC Women Innovators category, three prizes of EUR 100 000, EUR 70 000 and EUR 50 000 are awarded to the three highest-ranked applications; -In the EIC Rising Innovators, three prizes of EUR 50 000, EUR 30 000 and EUR 20 000 are awarded to the three highest-ranked applications from promising ‘Rising Innovators’ under the age of 35.  -The EIT Women Leadership Award, awarded to exceptional women leaders from the EIT Community. The winner is awarded EUR 50 000, and two runners-up are awarded EUR 30 000 and EUR 20 000 respectively. It's International Women's Day, or does anyone feel it’s more like International Women's Week now, which is awesome because there are tons of events to pick from allows smaller towns a chance to bring in some amazing speakers. But I've got to admit, I wasn't exactly buzzing with excitement at the thought of hearing Lisa Curry speak. When motivational speakers are former athletes, I usually tune out, thinking, "Sure, easy for you with your natural born talent." However, I went along with my friend Kerri-Ann Hooper mainly to get a break from the usual chaos of dinner, bath, and bedtime with my 3 and 5-year-old. And wow, am I glad I did. Two things she said really stuck with me: ⭐️ First, Lisa coached the Riggeroos to become the first Aussie team to snag two World Championships in the 72km Outrigger Canoe race in Hawaii in 1997 and 1998. She showed what a difference a great coach makes, turning a group that had never won anything and would rather hit the pub than train into winners. ⭐️And the thing that got me the most: At 30, with two little ones, Lisa swam her fastest ever at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Everyone said she was too old, that having kids had changed her body, and she didn't have time to train. But she proved them all wrong. It makes me think, especially for women growing a business or climbing the career ladder, that having young kids doesn't mean you have to hit pause. Lisa's story shows it's possible. So, happy International Women's Day to all the incredible women out there, especially to my fellow female financial advisers. We've got a crucial role to play more people will get advice if they see themselves represented. Let's continue to inspire and support each other, breaking barriers and achieving our dreams, no matter what stage of life we're in. 🥳 Ps: big thanks to Hunter Business Womens Network for an epic event.
