At the stroke of noon, we were hitting the Hard Rock Hotel Sessions Pavilion in Davos for a fireside chat 'lunch & learn' about reshaping work. ADP’s Chief Economist Dr. Nela Richardson and Stanford's Professor/Director of the Digital Economy Lab, Erik Brynjolfsson were anchored by Neil Irwin, chief economic correspondent at Axios. The topic: How tech advancements are smoothing out the rough edges in our work lives, fuelling global growth, and paving the way for a workforce that knows no borders. Why is EleaTek making a beeline for this event? Because friends, it's right up our alley. We're not just about tech for tech's sake. Our VolunTek, Volunteer, and Voluntourism programs will be pioneering a whole new way of working. Our presence at this fireside chat isn't just about soaking in insights; it's about contributing to the dialogue. EleaTek stands at the forefront of this digital revolution, championing a future where work isn't just a place you go but a purpose you fulfill – anywhere, anytime, the way it fits your life and structure - no 9-to-5. We're talking about a global, connected, and empowered human force (in conjunction with AI) where everyone has the chance to make a difference, regardless of age, experience, background, hometown, or gender. Our programs aren't just about getting the job done; they're about changing how we view work itself. It's a blend of volunteering, technology, and tourism, reshaping the traditional work paradigm. By showing up in this conversation at the World Economic Forum, EleaTek is not just keeping pace with the future – we're helping to define it. #EleaTekAtWEF #FutureOfWork #VoluntekRevolution

I know a lot of people think that I just threw Including Us in Tech out there weeks ago. However, this is not true. I got the idea last September - yes, almost a year ago. The landing page was put up 5 months ago. This initiative has been a long time coming, born out of a pressing need I observed in our industry. Last year, due to my work with AI, I had a lot of tech conferences sent to my inbox. I also came across a lot of them during my own searches online. What I noticed when I would go to look at the list of speakers was that they didn't include people that looked like me. There was a lack of diversity. Some of them had several speakers. I kept thinking about why they weren't INCLUDING US. Surely, there are many of us with valuable insights to add to the conversation - offering diverse perspectives and experiences that can enrich discussions and drive innovation. This apparent underrepresentation wasn't an isolated incident - it was a pattern. Many conferences didn't even include ONE of us. This realization helped me understand why spaces created JUST FOR US are so crucial. Sometimes, you have to create your own table, sit at the head of it, and let your voice be heard in a different way. A couple of nights ago, Jazmine Walker wrote to me with encouraging words about the posts she had been seeing on my LinkedIn. My response to her (in summary) was, "I am happy to do what I do. I feel really great about this. I am looking forward to seeing where we all can take it. This is definitely not about myself or Kee. I want to see US winning in tech, and for those who will come after us to have a solid start in the space. I want them to see many faces that look like theirs in technology - and not just see us sprinkled here and there." We are here. We will continue to be here. We all have a place, and whether or not we are welcome in some spaces, we are including ourselves in tech...for GOOD. But we can't do this alone. If you're reading this and you're in tech, I challenge you to take action. Advocate for diversity in your workplace. Mentor someone from an underrepresented group. If you're organizing a conference, make sure your speaker lineup reflects the diversity of talent in our industry. Together, we can make tech a more inclusive space for everyone. CEO & Co-Founder at Palqee | GRC & AI Trustworthiness Specialist | 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™ 2024 list | NLP Data Scientist in progress
We're all subject to affinity bias! Both men and women are used to seeing mainly men in leadership positions. So when a woman comes along, we (stressing this is a collective 'WE') tend to set the bar higher on our expectations. This is not only true in the tech sector, but I'd argue that as we stand on the threshold of the AI era, it is the most important sector to push for diversity. Nothing else will have a bigger impact on our societies in the near future. While it is important to talk about the need for diversity in AI - because we need to continue raising awareness and be persistent until change happens - we need to recalibrate our own biases. How do we do that? ✅ Invite more women in tech to talk about tech! ❌ Do less on what it means to be a woman in tech unless it's highly relevant to the event/ occasion. ♥ Luckily, I've been part of several events and conferences, where the organisers are really leading the way on this front. From large scale ones like Web Summit (honestly I think they've been doing a fantastic job in recent years with overall diversity in their speaker lineup) to smaller highly-targeted conferences like #RevX organised by Domino Data Lab (where also the vid was recorded). We need more! Thanks Lisa Carter, Roxana Mohammadian-Molina and Sarah Tijou for a great discussion. PS video has been edited to make it shorter, so it's a bit choppy - but hope the main message comes across. 😁
