GP surgeries in north London have launched the first NHS pilot scheme that will allow patients to book cervical appointments on WhatsApp using an AI receptionist. The scheme hopes to boost uptake for cervical screening for women after figures showed a significant drop in testing rates since the Covid pandemic. The technology involves the use of an AI receptionist, named Asa, who patients can interact with like they would with a human receptionist. Asa provides reassurance and can also answer patients’ questions relating to their appointment, but does not offer medical advice. The scheme has already been rolled out across surgeries in Islington and will soon be extended across north London. It is hoped the scheme could boost screening rates while also reducing demand for the phone line at GP surgeries. Experts say that women may often refuse cervical testing due to a lack of convenient appointments, embarrassment and concerns about pain. Less than two-thirds (62.6 per cent) of women in London were up to date with their screening for 2021/22 – well below the NHS target of 80 per cent and the lowest rate in England. #womenshealth #femtech #healthtech #digitalhealth #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #startups #innovation #health #medtech #healthcareresearch #femalehealth #genderhealthgap #reproductivehealth #venturecapital #vc #funding #investment #grants #maternalhealth #periods #menstruation #sexualhealth #sextech #menopause #fertility #pregnancy #postpartum #eggfreezing #IVF #healthequity #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #hormonehealth

"Participation in a postpartum remote BP monitoring program was associated with fewer postpartum hospital #readmissions, higher attendance at #postpartum visits, improved guideline adherence, and higher rates of #antihypertensive use." Congrats to their whole team and to American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for selecting it as editors pick. Love seeing more evidence for #remotepatientmonitoring in #postpartum women! This makes such a difference in health outcomes and in the ability of moms to stay home and enjoy their babies! Stellar outcomes. Now we just need to figure out how to #disseminate these #programs so it actually reaches those who need it. #healthequity

EarlyMoves, a project that utilises AI to detect early predictive movement patterns in vulnerable preterm babies, has been nominated for the national healthcare innovation award. The project is a collaboration between the UMCG NeoLifeS cohort and Neolook Solutions. Each year, 80 to 120 premature babies are admitted to the UMCG. Regular check-ups are crucial for these babies, who are often at increased risk of various growth, movement, and developmental issues. Thanks to the Early Moves project, it can be determined as early as three months whether a baby is developing normally or if there are possible abnormalities. For more background information on the EarlyMoves project, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e_c9daJT #EarlyMoves #PretermBabies #NeonatalHealth #AIinHealthcare #CohortResearch

The hardest part about being on the waiting list for endometriosis services isn't the clapping pressure on my spine and pubic bone every time I have a period. It's that given the average eight-year waiting time from initial symptoms to diagnosis, I can only see things getting more painful before they get better. That sentiment was confirmed when, after 10 years of pain and begging for a referral, I saw a gynaecologist. Delivered alongside a preliminary diagnosis was a reminder that we can't truly know without a laparoscopy. That's the type of keyhole surgery that can find endometrial tissue similar to the lining of the uterus growing outside of the womb (causing symptoms including pain, disabling bowel issues and infertility) and remove it. And so, it's from here that I write to you at the bottom of another waiting list. It feels archaic that a condition as common as diabetes calls for such invasive procedures. I oscillate between exhaustion (from trying to get answers, via a diagnosis) and fury that I have to experience more pain to be, if not pain-free, then more knowledgeable about the agony I experience. And I’m not alone: 84% of women felt that they haven’t been listened to by healthcare professionals, according to the government’s Women’s Health Strategy for England, while research commissioned by Nurofen also found that less than half of the women surveyed received a diagnosis for their pain within 11 months, compared with two-thirds of men. #womenshealth #femtech #healthtech #digitalhealth #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #startups #innovation #health #medtech #healthcareresearch #femalehealth #genderhealthgap #reproductivehealth #venturecapital #vc #funding #investment #grants #maternalhealth #periods #menstruation #sexualhealth #sextech #menopause #fertility #pregnancy #postpartum #eggfreezing #IVF #healthequity #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #hormonehealth

🔬 Axena Health, a medical device company specializing in female #pelvichealth, has announced that its Leva Pelvic Health System will be included in a significant clinical study funded by the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (PFDN). The study, titled “Training for Urinary Leakage Improvement after Pregnancy” (TULIP), aims to compare three first-line treatments for postpartum urinary incontinence (UI). 💡 💬 "Pelvic floor muscle training is a globally recommended first-line treatment for urinary incontinence. TULIP is designed to understand the value of PFMT to treat UI in postpartum women and provide clinicians valuable guidance about the available therapy options for these women who experience troubling UI after having a baby." Do not miss this maternal telehealth success story! Ultrasound is highlighted as a vital piece of care that can be successfully completed via telemedicine and helps identify fetal anomalies earlier (as evidenced by the steady growth of referrals). What other positive results came out of this program? ✔️ Patients saved more than 200,000 miles of driving and more than $30,000 in the cost of gas over the course of a year ✔️ Based on a minimum wage salary, families saved between $32,636 and $65,272 in missed work days ✔️ All patients who completed a survey would rather have telemedicine locally than travel for their care. What success story could you tell if you added maternal telemedicine to your care offerings? Message us to find out! #Radiaction is a crucial and practical solution for supporting and safeguarding vital caregivers in the cath lab. Craig Walker, MD, expressed his urgency for changes, stating, "As someone who has lost colleagues and friends to leukemia, melanoma, and brain tumors after serving long years in the cath lab, these changes can't come soon enough." He believes that the Radiaction system could prolong the careers of interventionists, eliminate pregnancy concerns that deter women from entering the field, alleviate the physical burden of wearing lead shielding, and allow medical professionals to focus on treating patients safely and comfortably.
