Vitamin C: The Sour Truth By Ron Steinke Time to buy some vitamin C. Grab that bottle of Ascorbic Acid and you're good to go! Right? No, you’re not. Ascorbic Acid isn’t Vitamin C. Although they are chemically the same thing your body doesn’t use them the same way. Most Ascorbic Acid is a lab-created isolate that is claimed to replace the Vitamin C found in natural foods. Real vitamin C does contain Ascorbic Acid. But it also must contain these other compounds and minerals, Rufin, bioflavonoids, K-factor, J-factor, P-factor, tyrosinase, and Ascorbinogen. If any of these are missing, it’s not real Vitamin C. And in this form, it just doesn’t do you much good. Vitamin C can be obtained by eating fresh fruits and vegetables, or supplements that list real fruits and veggies as the source of their Vitamin C. What can I write for you? Breakfast this morning was porridge with grated apple, mushroom powder, cinnamon and Brazil nuts. Mushroom powder (same as yesterday) - contains Chaga, Lion’s Mane, Maitake, Reishi and Shiitake mushrooms to help support the immune system, improve focus and help the body adapt to stressors. Apple - low glycemic index, high in fibre, good source of Vitamin C, high in quercetin which is anti-inflammatory.
