🌿Why measure both Visible and Infrared?🌿 📷 In this picture, you can find a result obtained from a measurement of the prototype of the NIREOS #HERAVISSWIR I'm developing for the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) #HYPERIA project. 🔍 The picture is a comparison between reflectance spectra before and after dehydration from leaves stored in and out of the fridge after 5 days from being harvested. 🌈 Panel a) and b) show the RGB image extracted from the #hyperspectral data of the same leaves before and after the 24-hour dehydration process. 🍃 Panel c) and d) show the spectra corresponding to #lettuce and #basil leaves either stored refrigerated or not. For the refrigerated leaf, two-point spectra are plotted to show the great variation even in a single leaf. This highlights why the information in every pixel matters. 🌱 Looking at the spectra it is possible to see the #water absorption band locations (highlighted in blue) around 980, 1200, and 1450 nm. Moreover, it is possible to clearly distinguish the #Chlorophyll A and B absorption bands which are located at 670nm and 630nm, respectively. 💡 Remarkably, this is performed using a single camera measuring from 400 to 1700 nm, from the visible to the infrared and with 1024x1280 pixels, a very high resolution considering the #SWIR range. #hyperspectral #spectroscopy #hyperspectralimaging #SWIR

〰 Most real surfaces aren’t flat. Failing to correct for curvature-induced effects during nanoindentation testing can lead to inaccurate modulus calculations. 📰 This application note addresses the real-life situation of non-flat surface conditions in a monolithic metallic #glass and how to correct for curvature-induced effects on the indentation modulus by using an equivalent radius. 🔎 Check it out to see how performing this correction reveals an elastic microstructure in a metallic glass, despite the existence of only a single amorphous phase. 👉 https://lnkd.in/g-NcBy9W This app note features the work of two guest authors from the Federal Institute of Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Germany: Dr. Birte Riechers Prof. Dr. Robert Maass Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung #materialscience #materialtesting

#100daysofamplifierdesign day 4 Today, i took a quick tour virtually in Sam Zeloof 's Home chip fab lab and i was able to understand better how some of the processes described yesterday were done. I also learnt how to make a MOSFET. Starting with a silicon wafer (P-type) with a crystal orientation of 100, the wafer is put in a furnance (for about 2 hours) till it grows extra 500 nanometers thick. After this, the wafer is etched in Hydroflouric acid. This wafer is provided an hydrophilic surface before doping by spinning on a phosphorous film (an N-type dopant since our wafer is P-type). Then it is put on a hot plate to bake away the solvents after which we place it in the furnance at more than 1000degrees celcius for 45 minutes to an hour, by doing this, the oxide layer is grown back and also make the n-type diffusion wells. This is etched again and grown back (thinner). Connections is made between the drain and source and our MOSFET is made. I learnt that, like Sam Zeloof, these processes can be made in an home lab by using less expensive tools or techniques. Eg, Sam Zeloof made his spinning coating machine from a fan he took from another computer and uses a tape to hold the wafer down. He also set up an illuminator with a fibre optic so he can better see his work. He also showed his tube furnance which he got at $35 from the great glass company. As described, i followed how he achieved the processes described above and yesterday in his home lab Pipeloluwa Olayiwola #100daysofamplifierdesign

📺 #Post-processing electronic parts not only enhances aesthetics but also fortifies performance. Surface finishing options available at Xometry include: ➡️ #Anodising: it protects parts from corrosion, provides durability, and makes parts non-conductive. ➡️ #Powder-coating: it increases surface smoothness and corrosion resistance. Powder coating can also be used for colouring. ➡️ Quenching and tempering are used to increase surface hardness and reduce brittleness. ➡️ Passivation protects parts from corrosion. ➡️ #Electroplating involves coating metals with layers of other metals to provide a shiny appearance and rust protection. 📰 Explore Xometry’s electronics development and production services: https://zurl.co/BS2u 🌐 Let Xometry manufacture your electronics.
