🌊 How Sydney Fish Market’s Glulam Roof Uses Sea Breezes to Self-Cool 🐟 The Sydney Fish Market, a landmark harbourside project, has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its impressive glulam roof, designed to harness natural elements for energy efficiency and comfort. 🔎 Key Highlights: 1️⃣ Architectural Icon: The most important harbourside development since the Opera House, the new fish market features a unique roof design of 594 timber beams supporting over 466 cassettes. This innovative structure enhances the aesthetic appeal and utilises sea breezes to cool the building naturally. 2️⃣ Sustainable Materials: Over 1,800 cubic meters of spruce glulam and 50 tonnes of steel were sourced for the roof, showcasing the project's commitment to using sustainable and durable materials. Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver, Canada 🏛️ 🔔A Modern Approach to Heritage: Christ Church Cathedral’s Zinc Roof 🛠 After 22 years of meticulous renovation, the historic Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver has reached its crowning achievement—a new roof crafted with RHEINZINK-prePATINA blue-grey panels. This milestone marks the culmination of a project that blends respect for heritage with modern engineering and sustainability, setting a new standard in architectural restoration. 🔨 Originally built in 1894, the Cathedral has undergone many changes, but none as transformative as this. The decision to use RHEINZINK zinc panels was guided by their durability, aesthetic harmony with the natural stone facade, and compliance with Heritage preservation guidelines. The result is a roof designed to last over 100 years, withstanding both the elements and the test of time. The complexity of this project extended beyond material selection. The roof structure, which had shifted over decades, required precise leveling. Using advanced 3D laser modelling, the team created a flawless substrate, ensuring the zinc panels were installed with unparalleled accuracy. The craftsmanship itself was entirely traditional—every panel was hand-formed by TEK Roofing Ltd., respecting old-world techniques that honour the building’s historic significance. 🌱 What sets this renovation apart is not just the technical achievement but also the collaborative spirit. Architects, engineers, and artisans worked closely, ensuring that every detail adhered to both functional and aesthetic goals.
