The choice of natural materials for the interior of the new Clarice Pears Building at the University of Glasgow included extensive use of wood finishes to help promote a sense of naturalness and calm for the School of Health and Wellbeing. The fitted furniture provided by Deanestor included bespoke, full height meeting booths in a maple wood finish with brightly coloured seating according to the zone. These units, manufactured at our factory in the East Midlands, were provided in different sizes and configurations. The booths incorporate acoustic treatment with padded upholstery above head height to create a canopy that promotes quiet working in the inclusive study spaces. Each was fitted with power, data and charging facilities. Other booth-style seating arrangements were designed to encourage collaborative working and study whilst incorporating good acoustic performance with the use of upholstered screens. The Clarice Pears Building accommodates over 8,000sqm of research, engagement and teaching space. This modern house blends with the neighborhood but stands out from traditional architectural style Many people face the challenge of finding the right architect who can truly understand and deliver their vision. It goes beyond just navigating zoning laws and getting building department approval. It’s about the architect's ability to grasp the client's wishes and needs to creatively design their homes. Our client expressed a clear need for a house that stood out from the traditional cut stone or brick designs commonly seen in the neighborhood. They wished to have a house that blended modern architecture with elements of classical design language, avoiding an ultra-modern style that would be incongruous in the area. We accomplished this by creating modern-classic design language, incorporating modern designs elements, while maintaining a certain level of charm, intricate detailing, and visual interest. The two materials we used for the fascia of the house are grey stone and painted wood planks, the most used construction materials in the neighboring houses. But both materials are used in a modern style, size and proportion. This project provided an opportunity to showcase how traditional materials could be used in a modern architectural design.

Steel's Strength Unveiled 🏗️🔩 Imagine walking into a space where the only limit is the sky above. That's the magic of architectural steelwork. It's not just about the structures we create; it's about the boundaries we erase. In the realm of architecture, steelwork is the unsung hero, the silent force that pushes the envelope, allowing us to dream and build bigger, bolder, and more openly. It's the backbone of modern design, enabling vast, uninterrupted interior spaces that defy traditional limitations. Consider the iconic glass facades gracing our skylines. These transparent canvases are supported by the might of steel, offering a seamless transition from the bustling city to the tranquility of an interior haven. Steel's versatility is unmatched, bending to the will of architects' most creative impulses while maintaining the integrity of their vision. But it's not just about aesthetics. The practicality of steelwork lies in its ability to span great distances without the need for intermediate columns. This opens up a world of possibilities for interior design, where walls become movable elements, and the flow of space is only dictated by our imagination. In the UK, we've seen a renaissance of sorts, with steelwork taking center stage in projects aiming to revitalize historic buildings. By integrating steel structures, we're able to preserve the past while embracing the future, creating spaces that are both respectful of their heritage and unapologetically modern. As we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, let's not forget the role of steelwork in shaping not just our buildings, but our experiences within them. It's the silent giant upon which our most expansive dreams are built. #Architecture #Steelwork #Innovation

𝘏𝘦𝘸𝘐𝘕𝘚𝘐𝘎𝘏𝘛 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴: Effectively Using Oak In Construction European Oak is one of the longest-standing timbers to be found in construction and can be used in a wide range of applications. Known for its strength, durability and aesthetic beauty, it has been at the heart of UK construction through the centuries, a favourite for architects and designers to use, dating as far back as 1200’s. Things changed in the 18th Century, when the use of oak was very much controlled by the demands of naval ship building, and ultimately led to a decline in the use of oak in construction. That being said, many of the historical applications of oak usage still are current today these include: - 𝐎𝐚𝐤 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: Structural oak beams have been used for centuries thanks to their exceptional strength and longevity and, even to this day, are still used to creating robust frameworks that can withstand the test of time, whilst providing an ageless visual appeal. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐲 / 𝐅𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Kiln dried oak is well known as a favourite for internal joinery with the wide-ranging features of the oak enhancing interiors and adding a prestigious feel to any project. Typical applications include staircases, wall panelling and flooring. 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐲: Air dried oak is ideal for external applications such as doors and window frames, but also staircases and cabinetry, where stability is crucial. Air dried oak is also easier to work with, making it perfect for intricate joinery and fine detailing. 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Oak has been used for many years in the UK infrastructure, and little do we realise how often we may interact with the oak each day. Applications include: railway lines, bridges, sea defences, canal lock gates, retaining walls, fences and gates – all relying on the structural integrity and enduring beauty of Oak. 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬: Also known as cover boards, this is a relatively new application of oak in construction. These boards are used with direct glazing to oak frames, replicating the look of the internal frame on the exterior. Unlock the potential of oak in your next development, and let's create something extraordinary together. #EuropeanOak #HewINSIGHT #Architects #TimberMarketing #Construction #OakSpecialists #OakConstruction #OakBeams #TimberSupply #Joinery
