The first part of leadership is earning the trust of the people who work for you. Making sure you lead by example and striving to ensure long term stability with your staff. It doesn’t come easy, but well worth it in the end.
"We should not judge people by their peak of excellence; but by the distance they have traveled from the point where they started." — Henry Ward Beecher
This is a great example of why it is critical to learn and develop leadership skills throughout life, even though you may not lead a team in your professional life.
Every day we are faced with situations and challenges that require some level of leadership, whether it's at home with our family or at work with customers, clients, and teammates. Even more critical, is learning to lead and manage ourselves. We all face internal struggles at some point and learning to lead effectively can help us be more effective at managing them. After all, how can we expect to lead others if we can't even lead yourself?

For many professionals of color, the leadership journey can feel solitary and daunting. So, I pose this question to our community: How can educators of color support each other? What concrete actions can we take today to stand by our fellow professionals through their triumphs and struggles?
Fran's Hot Take Of The Week.

Your own career will likely advance as a result.
