Buying a new home has recently given me more perspective on the value of hiring someone who is specialized. At first I wanted to renovate the home all by myself, despite having little experience doing so. 😅 Am I going to demo and install a new tub by myself, and put in new floors? I could, but it would take way more time, effort, and money than hiring someone who does it all day. Recruiting is similar. Anyone can do it, but hiring a specialized recruiter who knows what they're doing brings that same value. This can save you time, effort, and believe it or not - money - in the long run. At last count, there were 8.5 million 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 in the US and only 6.5 million 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱 people. This 2-million-person gap presents a quandary for hiring managers, and it’s worse in some industries than others. The 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 industry is faring particularly badly, with a report from the Associated Builders and Contractors stating we’ll need over a half million workers in that field this year alone. But even for information workers and professionals in other fields, hiring is a problem. To gain an advantage in this market, partnering with outside resources is essential.
