As a former Chief of Staff at Customs and Border Protection, I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges of maintaining effective border management. It involves critical areas such as drug control, immigration management, and trafficking prevention - all immensely complex fields that require expertise, cooperation, and resource commitment. And yet, secure borders are not just an end in themselves. They also pave the way for smoother international trade operations by ensuring that illicit goods don't mix with legitimate commerce. In essence, a secure border can lead to thriving cross-border businesses through effective nearshoring strategies.
