Veterans have a strong edge in federal government employment. If you are a disabled veteran you receive a 10-point preference. It doesn't matter if you are 30% disabled or 20% or under 10%. You get a 10-point preference. But you STILL need to be qualified for the job. How do signal that you are qualified? Your resume. #Veterans only make up 25% of the federal government. Most people have no clue what an E-5 or O-3 is. Do not expect the person reading your resume to understand military jargon. If you are a non-veteran and think this is unfair... Then focus on the direct hiring authority. #governmentjobs #govtjobs #hiring

Are you a military spouse? "If you're a military spouse, you may be eligible to apply using a non-competitive process designed to help you get a job in the federal government." "Federal agencies can use the military spouse non-competitive hiring process to fill positions on either a temporary or permanent basis. You’re eligible if you are: A spouse of an active duty member of the armed forces. A spouse of a service member who is 100% disabled due to a service-connected injury at the time of separation from military service. A spouse of a service member killed while on active duty. You are no longer eligible if you remarry. You must meet certain criteria for each of these eligibility categories. Learn more about the specific criteria for military spouses. Your eligibility does not entitle you to a job within the Federal Government. You must still apply and meet qualification standards and additional requirements, such as a background investigation." https://lnkd.in/dkC96a2i Follow us on X @FBISanJuan #fbi #careers #governmentjobs #federalemployees #militarytransition #militaryspouse

Let's take a moment to talk about Veteran Spouse Hiring. Our service doesn't end when our partner transitions to the civilian world. One single day separates a military spouse from a Veteran's spouse. I applaud the support of our active duty sisters and brothers and their spouses, but you'll see the detrimental impact of wage progression, lack of upward mobility due to job change and impacts to your career don't stop when you're no longer a military spouse---but they stick around for years when you're "only" a Veteran's spouse. The biggest adjustment after my partner retired was the lack of support for Veteran FAMILY hiring. Please comment below your thoughts about Veteran Family hiring. How are you continuing to support our armed forces and their families-- across a lifetime? #VeteranFamilyHiring

I thought it would be “fun” to track and share the status of my job searching, as I transition out of the military. This chart below outlines my efforts from December 2023 until today... Is this about the average for Emergency Management Job Seekers? 10 of those positions were Federal; 5 Private Industry; 5 City/County/State. #EmergencyManagement #veteran #EMJobs

The discrepancy in pay between specific jobs can be stark and thought-provoking. It raises questions about how we value different types of work and the individuals who perform them. On the one hand, the job of an armed guard, which entails putting oneself in potentially dangerous situations and requiring weapons for defense, may seem undervalued at $17 an hour, considering the risks involved. On the other hand, the contrast with the pay received by veterans who have served their country, often facing extreme danger and sacrificing their safety for the greater good, highlights a broader issue of how we compensate those who serve in roles that involve defending and protecting others. #veteransupport It's a reminder to advocate for fair treatment and recognition of the sacrifices made by all individuals who serve in roles that contribute to the safety and well-being of others.

For years it has been an open secret of the corrupt practices in Redstone Arsenal civilian promotion processes. It is a culture of selfish, unethical, and discreetly manipulative leadership whose job it is to shape the workforce in their image. Favoritism and bigotry drive ineffective and counterproductive civilian leadership within most Redstone organizations. For functional and mid-level management to attempt to swim against this current is tantamount to career suicide. This virus has been heretofore thought exclusive to civilian career progression. But it would seem lack of integrity has moved beyond the Redstone civilian community. This contamination cannot be allowed to continue to spread into the active-duty Warfighter or Warfighter support ranks. It is one thing to have this corruption within the REMF ranks; but to have incompetence within the Warfighter ranks presents a whole different set of unnecessary and critical risks ....

#WeAreTheGuard | A common reaction Guardsmen often get is "You're Not Active Duty". That is true... and Active Duty Aren't The Guard. COMPO 1 (Active Component) and COMPO 2 (National Guard) are two separate and distinct roles. Active Component has a single role—to fight and win our nation's wars—from a single employer. The vast majority of Guardsmen like myself (1) have a normal civilian job, and have to be ready to either (2) respond to a natural or man-made disaster here at home, or (3) deploy to support military operations overseas. That is a lot of unknowns to manage. Guardsmen in units like CBRNE* Enhanced Response Force Packages (CERFPs), Civil Support Teams (CSTs), and Homeland Response Forces (HRFs) have mobilization timelines of just a few hours after notification. CBRNE stands for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and High-Yield Explosives. The State Partnership Program, where a US state partners with another nation's military to build relationships and improve capability, has already yielded benefits. The California National Guard has been partnered with #Ukraine for over 30 years. The California Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing out of Fresno was training with many of the Ukrainian Air Force pilots flying against the Russians today. #ARTICLE: "F-15 Eagle Driver On What It Is Like Flying Against Ukraine’s Fighter Pilots", 29 MAR 2023, The War Zone, https://lnkd.in/eB8N_4zZ Even though the Global War on Terror is over, the Army National Guard is still deploying divisions overseas. We are no longer a strategic reserve. We are an operational reserve, with higher expectations on readiness and deployability. The year 2036 will be the 400th anniversary of the US National Guard's founding in 1636. We existed for nearly 200 years before America's first military operations overseas during the Undeclared Naval War with France (1798-1800). We protected the homefront then, and we still do today. "Always Ready, Always There!" "Always Ready, On The Way!"
As 2023 draws to a close, take a look back at another busy year for the National Guard. #nationalguard #yearinreview #2023success
