One question I was often asked during the Lockdown period in 2020 by makeup students & makeup trainees was would it be more difficult to get into the film industry when filming was able to resume. My answer was always the same that I felt that broadcasting companies would introduce more trainee roles to help support film making & to build skilled teams. It was evident there would be a boom in film making & I felt there would be a need for more trainees. It has been the case consistently since 2020 & more companies have recognised they need to develop trainee positions to support the areas that are needing skilled teams. It is really encouraging to see these roles for trainees especially in the hair & makeup field.

Full-Stack Software Engineer (+4 years) & former Entrepreneur/Founder leading teams and sales (+10 years)
Trying something a little different to find my next job as a software engineer, hear me out... When it comes to looking for a new job, there are 2 things that I believe need to change so we can give and get more help from the people we know: 1- Make it easy/clear to know about your situation today and how to help you today. The more up to date people are about your needs and progress, the easier it is to help you. Remove friction and people are extremely generous, but if it's too foggy people will tune you out. 2- Information (knowing something you don't, like what company may want to hire someone like you) and Trust (having someone's permission to introduce you to them) are valuable assets that we don't reward accordingly (heck, they are often the only way to get a job!). I believe that people that offer those assets to help you get a job should be rewarded, because it wouldn't have happened without them. Companies already do this when they offer referral fees, so why not also offer it if you're looking for a job? This is my attempt to provide an easy to update "snapshot" of my career, and to reward whoever helps me find my next job as a software engineer:

My client was in full panic mode when she came to me. Recently laid off, she hadn’t: - Updated her resume in 3 years - Grown her network on LinkedIn - Interviewed since graduating college She was terrified at the thought of being out of work for months. But rather than rush into her job search and approach it from a place of fear… We took a step back. We slowed things down by starting with the big picture. I asked her what she wanted from her career: → What was her ideal role? → What skills did she want to learn next? → What type of work environment was she looking for? The more we talked, the more we realized: She hadn’t been fulfilled by her last role. So moving forward in her job search, I showed her how to: -Properly vet job descriptions based on her priorities -Ask questions in interviews to ensure the role would be a good fit for her -Scope out different industries she was interested in to cast a wider net Then we adjusted her resume to align with her new priorities and goals. She started applying for roles… And within 90 days, she landed a job as an Associate Customer Success Manager! She was finally on a career track she was excited about. Three years later, she’s progressed to Senior Customer Success Manager… And she’s been able to diversify her experience by working in a new industry. So if you’ve been laid off recently… Don’t panic. A fulfilling career is out there for you. 🌊
