F___k up a company and then take the golden parachute. If you want to see why American business is so corrupt, here is a perfect example. I am not sure Culp is the answer. He solved a financial problem at GE and he did well running Danaher, but this is a cultural problem, reverse the McDonnell Douglas profit first approach and re-establish the technical culture that made Boeing what it was, a model engineering company.

An incredible honor to be recognize for the team's safety, quality and on-time-delivery performance as one of the top three PNW suppliers by Boeing and PNAA. Firland Foundation and Workshop is one of the best of ~2,500 suppliers (of which only 263 are premier bidders). The team has recorded as-delivered zero defect, 100% OTD and no reportable work-place accidents in over two years. But this is just a part of their story. I think one of the most remarkable achievement this team delivered recently was they weathered the storm created by COVID-19 crisis while maintaining a fully paid staff including their full benefits and continued retirement funding. The non-profit foundation has two primary missions: (1) to provide employment for people with disabilities through the operation of the Firland Workshop. The purpose is to provide employees opportunities to be self-supporting, so that they may lead productive and independent lives.  (2) to use the income generated from the workshop to provide grants directed toward the funding of research and treatment of tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases, to build regional capacity, and to support advocacy for the control and elimination of tuberculosis. - Take care of employees. - Lean out and simplify process to drive income. - Use the income to fund medical research and medical fellowships Sounds like a lean / six-sigma practitioners' dream work...

Advance 24, the annual aerospace event organized by The Pacific Northwest Aircraft Alliance concluded today. It was great to reconnect with my former Boeing colleagues and system suppliers. I found the presentations by Doug Ackermann, VP Supplier Quality and Ihssane Mounir, SVP Supplier Management and Fabrication, on point, honest and clear: Back to the basics with "intense curiosity". Great leaders and their teams will thrive if the right investments are made. Not by the end of the decade but now. Like Ihssane said (and even ambitious Elon Mask): building an airplane with its large system integration is easily the most complex procurement and production task that exists in the world, let alone under difficult circumstances like supply chain constraints, travelled work, aging work force, unpredictable crisis (like covid) and lack of investment into digital. Good people will thrive and make a difference, if they are enabled to do so by modern technologies and a people friendly, open minded culture. And they will do so with intense curiosity!

Anything sounds more appealing. For instance, Spirit also has the potential to stand on its own. Not only to be the backbone for scaled US manufacturing but to serve as an example and tier 1 to the global supply chain. Previously Alex and other industry experts noted that 1 word could help us all live up to our best potential. The word "accountability". (the other word is profitability) It's easy to understand what that means from an outside perspective, but it's more complicated on any inside. The word accountability can only be tackled at an individual level and team synergy should take care of the rest. I only control my own accountability, and serve as an example to others. If we dive into the meaning of accountability there are 2 attributes we chose to focus on first: Responsibility and Pride. We all have a responsibility to live up to our best potential. We owe it to ourselves, families, communities, and our faith to encourage each other to act on these responsibilities insuring that our children will have the same opportunities and freedoms that our parents had. I had the honor of attending a presention by the MONTFORD POINT MARINES OF AMERICA INC. The word responsibility sure means more than most could ever understand, and boy howdy what a motivational speech by the ambassador. If we all work together and serve as examples of responsibility to embrace the perspectives needed for change... well, that sounds like something anyone would have pride to be a part of. I am proud to be accepted as part of the Spirit team and I consider it a duty to help others find their own personal pride. My grandfather and his brother worked in plant 1 under another company name and you can trace that building all the way back to Stearman. No matter the name on the buildings, the Spirit of aerospace manufacturing has always been and will continue to be found in the perseverance and pride of those who push to be their best. At Spirit we are pushing, we like our name, and we will stand up for the pride and greatness of American Manufacturing. Thank you for the motivational Forbes article.
