Protecting the natural world and human health continues to be a top global priority. For the aviation industry, effectively managing wildlife is crucial to ensure the safety of birds, people, and planes. It’s estimated that over 21,000 bird strikes occur each year: a huge loss for our natural environment and a heightened risk for passenger safety. As we face seismic shifts with our climate, bird migration patterns are shifting. With a reduction in natural habits, the few surviving green spaces we have are becoming even more attractive for bird populations. As part of our commitment towards protecting global communities, we continue to work closely with major airports across the globe, to mitigate and manage wildlife challenges, using our highly effective, non-lethal, bird dispersion solutions. Tropical environments, like Singapore, present unique challenges for airport wildlife hazard management. With rapid vegetation growth, consistent warm temperatures, and frequent heavy rainfall, airports in these regions face several specific considerations. While techniques for managing wildlife hazards are well-studied in temperate regions, the core principles are universal. However, applying these techniques in tropical climates requires specific adaptations to address unique environmental factors. For a deeper dive into these tropical-specific strategies, check out our latest article on airportbiologist.com! #AviationSafety #WildlifeManagement #BirdStrike #TropicalEnvironments #AirportSafety #TemperateVsTropical

Happy National Bird Day!🐦 Did you know #GreenGlobes certification awards credit for bird collision mitigation and strategies for protecting bird habitats? Let's prevent bird strikes in the built environment together: 1. Minimize reflective surfaces by using bird-friendly films or frosted glass, as reflective surfaces can confuse birds. 2. Install netting or screens to create a barrier between birds and potentially hazardous surfaces. 3. Implement a "lights-out policy" during the months when migrating birds are flying overhead. This can help to prevent birds from becoming disoriented by excessive artificial lights. 4. Increase rooftop vegetation with indigenous plant species to provide food and habitat for migratory birds. Learn more about bird protection criteria in our free online technical reference manuals, found here: https://bit.ly/47mSmWi #NationalBirdDay #GreenDesign #greenbuilding #sustainability

Forests are key elephant habitat, and their relationship is a two-way street. Elephants forage in the forest and disperse seeds, which in turn regenerates the forest, creating both resilient wildlife and forests despite the growing threats they face. Mara Elephant Project alongside our partners protects three key forests, the Mau, Loita and Nyakweri, and the wildlife that call them home. Adapting to the ever-changing environment to increase forest protection requires innovative technologies. MEP deploys drones to conduct aerial reconnaissance to root out illegal deforestation and to monitor elephants inside the dense forest. We use high resolution satellite imagery supported by Connected Conservation Foundation and Airbus Foundation to monitor forest loss and encroachment. Beyond technologies, innovative approaches like seedballs from Seedballs Kenya enable MEP rangers to disperse indigenous tree seedlings in a degraded area after they’ve removed the threat. Forests are critical to the survival of species like elephants and humans, and their protection is vital, like the air we breathe. #forestday #internationaldayofforests

Technology will continue improving conservation efficiency...of course discoveries such as infrared cameras where developed at the office desks, into the workshop and then into the field. This tells us how each one of us has a role to play than thinking that our roles are more important than the other. I fully support integrated conservation approach and this is a very good example.
28 August update - WATCH!! Human Elephant Conflict (HEC) is real, we managed to intervene and get these two bulls out of the village last night. First we had to block them from the school farm and eventually managed to get them past this sisal leaving a trail of hot footsteps behind. Phew 😮💨! This project is being made possible by Elephant Conservation Organization, Conservation Through Tourism, Mara Elephant Project and Expert Drones Africa, the people here appreciate you for sure! 👍! Get involved! #conservation #spaceforelephants #HEC #HWC #elephants #africa #tanzania #working #farms #farming #drone #conflict #K9
