As the world's largest food and beverage company, increasing access to food and supporting the communities where we live and work is central to who we are at Nestlé.    One of the ways we've helped bring our connection to communities across the US to life is through our work with Rid-All Green Partnership, an urban farm located in Cleveland. Our employees are volunteering their time throughout the year to help restore a hoop house into a functional growing space that will provide fresh produce and provide learning and growth opportunities for community members.    Dan McCabe, our U.S. Community Affairs lead, recently sat down with the team at Vox to share more about this effort, and how combining resources and expertise can help build community connections and support the success of urban farms. We're grateful for all our employees who have dedicated their time and expertise to give back to our communities. In the fast-paced world of corporate hospitality, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers—occupancy rates, ADR, RevPAR. But are we remembering the humanity that should underpin it all? When a hotel is built under a major chain flag, it becomes a part of the local community. It’s wonderful to see participation in chamber of commerce events, fundraisers, or community clean-ups, but are we practicing that same sense of community within our day-to-day operations? Think about it: if a local couple frequently supports our bar or restaurant staff, are we showing them our gratitude? Maybe by occasionally buying them a drink, offering free parking, locals' night, or reserving a table when they want to share their experience with out-of-town guests? Small gestures like these go a long way in fostering loyalty and connection. They remind our community that we value them as more than just customers—they’re part of our extended family. Corporate hospitality has so many opportunities to build meaningful relationships beyond transactional ones. Thanks to Brian Konopka and the Institute of Culinary Education for inviting me to speak on the power of building community. I shared stories and learnings from my time at Union Square Hospitality Group, where Danny Meyer challenged us to engage with the community within and beyond our four walls. At USHG, we brought people together around food, creating connections that extended far beyond our restaurants. The more we engaged, the more support we received, and the more resilient our business became. It was a powerful, virtuous cycle. This approach led to unexpected opportunities, including our partnership with the Beth Israel Hospice. What started as a small idea grew into a company-wide initiative that served patients and their families for 15 years. It took the dedication of scores of volunteers, and the road was not always smooth – but we impacted thousands of lives (including our own!) in ways we could never have imagined. We created a supportive community during life's most challenging moments, once again bringing people together around food. Are you considering community work but unsure where to start? Think about something that matters to you and reach out to someone doing that work. Putting your intentions out there allows the universe to respond in extraordinary ways.
