Our Executive Headteacher Mark Lehain appeared on ITV today, discussing how the attendance at Wootton Upper School improved to above national average in just a year and why it is imprortant that pupils are in School everyday during term-time!
Breaking News - Another shooting at an after-school event! The decision to move future games to a "neutral site" raises questions about the effectiveness of safety professionals in controlling activities at a familiar site. Unfortunately, these after-school event shootings and violence are on the rise. Let's discuss this important topic at the National School Safety Conference in Orlando next July. Stay safe!

👫Watching this newsround clip. This is what I heard from the young people that spoke and what's important to them in their alternative provision:
💫 They could talk to someone when they were feeling anxious or stressed.➡️ They felt heard, understood and active listening from adults is taking place.
💫 They could take a break when they needed to. ➡️ Keeps them in their Optimal window of tolerance, and fulfills their sensory need.
💫Not as stressful or hectic as their normal school. ➡️Provided safety for their nervous system and less likely to enter Fight/Flight/freeze state.
💫They didn't have to wear a uniform.➡️Sensory needs are met and they feel comfortable and regulated.
💫 They got to have a blanket.➡️ Helped to regulate them and help them to feel safe.
Gavin Budby then says he gives them, "the things they need in life". A simple but powerful statement. Thankyou for sharing this Gavin. Magnificent work you are doing.
FACT: The one size fits all model, isn't for everyone.

Unbelievably proud of all involved in this report, especially the students who were brave in their responses. Nina and Otis from the BBC were a pleasure to host on the day and it was evident they had no agenda outside of ensuring the young peoples thoughts were shared. Thankful to be able to continue this much needed work and support with Acorn Alternative Provision here in our little town of Normanton.

🔫School shooting is among some of the most heartbreaking topics. Each case shatters the society, instills fear and despair, but also has more long-lasting effects on the entire society. As it was said in the School Shootings round table, a vicious cycle begins. Some people, driven by fear, demand even stricter government measures, meanwhile, another group distrusts the state, fearing it will turn authoritarian. This creates a divide, with two opposing groups emerging. As tensions rise, an anti-government faction forms, setting the stage for protests and demonstrations. What started as a peaceful democratic society now begins to shift towards totalitarianism.
The round table is absolutely vital to watch for prevention⤵️

It's no secret that raising a child takes a village. As the African proverb goes, "it takes a village to raise a child."
Parents and teachers must work together to raise and guide our children and students.
Let's remember the importance of collaboration and support as we navigate the challenges of parenting and education.

Let’s take an inside look at how your NYPD officers safely & professionally restored order at Columbia University & The City College of New York yesterday, after school officials requested our assistance in dispersing unlawful encampments on their campuses & persons barricaded inside their buildings.
It bears repeating- your police officers have a thankless job & it is important that we recognize their great work. Thank you to the Strategic Response Group (SRG), Community Response Team and all the police officers assigned to the mobile field force yesterday.
We will always protect the right to peaceful protest. Public safety is, & forever will be, our top priority.
