Great article. I agree youth sports needs a total overhaul. I think the European club system offers a great model. We need to focus on player development rather than winning at young levels. We need to cut the cost down. And we need to get back to the basics of what youth sports is supposed to be about, the development of the young people into healthy well balanced humans…

Yesterday, I watched a movie called “Skater Girl” which was released in 2021 and is presently available on Netflix. As a sports management student, it provides valuable insights into the impact of sports on individual lives and communities, the role of infrastructure in sports development, and the challenges of introducing new sports in traditional societies. The movie’s protagonist “Prerna” embodies the empowerment that sports can bring, especially to marginalized groups and how sports can be used as a vehicle for self-expression, confidence building, social change, and identity creation. The movie also highlighted the importance of sports infrastructure. The skatepark not only provided a space for physical activity but also became a communal hub, fostering social cohesion and community pride. Investing in sports infrastructure, particularly in under-served areas, can have far-reaching benefits, encouraging participation and nurturing local talent. The movie also talked about the challenges associated with grassroot sports activities and overcoming the barriers associated with it. It emphasized the need for culturally sensitive approaches and robust community outreach programs to ensure the acceptance and sustainability of new sports initiatives, especially in the rural areas. The movie also reflected the significant impact that passionate individuals and support systems can have in sports development. You can also establish a "Hall of Fame" to honour individuals who consistently embody the core values over multiple sports days, promoting sustained positive behaviour. This approach fosters a positive environment where everyone feels valued, contributing to a memorable and enriching experience for every athlete and pupil.   Finally, implementing a values-based system requires collaboration among school owners, teachers, parents, sports organizations, coaches, athletes, and other stakeholders.
