Following a comprehensive public comment period, Freedom Transit will implement a new fare structure for our fixed route buses, effective July 1, 2024. This updated fare system is designed to streamline our current zone structure, eliminate the need for riders to carry change, and align our rates with industry standards. Fare Restructure Highlights: ⏺ Simplified Fare Categories: The number of fare categories will be reduced from four (4) to two (2) for user ease. ⏺ Washington County Travel: A flat fare of $2.00 for all fixed route travel within Washington County. ⏺ Allegheny County Travel: A flat fare of $4.00 for all fixed route travel to/from Allegheny County.

Have said for a while that flexible route buses do not work for transporting more than a handful of people per hour. Flexible route buses trying to feed infrequent trains is a particularly bad combination, such as we're seeing this morning near Melton. This is because: (a) infrequent trains artificially concentrate demand (b) fixed, not flexible, routes are best at coping with this (c) even if you do board a flexible route bus the service is unreliable, with an hour added to the journey if you just miss a train (where hourly such as Melton on weekends) This is starting to be recognised with the latest GAIC funding including the conversion of Tarneit North's FlexiRide to a more reliable fixed route. For a while we were led astray by DTP execs with a weak transport planning background who got swayed by show over substance. Fortunately reality is starting to catch up. Tri Delta Transit will be changing our timetable schedule Sunday, January 12th. Please find a preview of our schedule on our website www.trideltatransit.com. Bay Area transit agencies are now syncing schedules in a whole new way with a focus on improving transfers between systems and making schedule changes at the same time. Most Bay Area transit agencies are rolling out new schedules in mid-January in coordination with each other and have now aligned the timing of schedule changes twice each year, once in summer (mid-August) and once in winter (mid-January). Since 2022, the number of transit agencies with full schedule change alignment (changing schedules at the same time August and January) has increased from 4 to 19, for a 375% increase. Advancing schedule change alignment is a key priority for Bay Area transit general managers who meet on a weekly basis to make transit more rider-focused and efficient. Happy riding!

Good (customer) News! Remember a while ago there was all that furore about Euston Station putting up a giant digital board... and then filling it with advertising? Well as of today, the board will be switched back on and display train information instead. The smaller boards will still remain on to help disperse the crowds, but there's now one, big, central board that keen be seen from practically everywhere in the station. Great stuff. Interesting in the same article, there was mention of another trial underway by Network Rail to help improve the experience: earlier boarding of Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway trains. 'When surveyed by Network Rail staff, the response from passengers who’ve been able to board trains earlier has been positive, with many people expressing an improvement to their travel experience. By allowing passengers to board at a more relaxed pace, early boarding has created a calmer station environment, especially during peak times.' Good to see common sense prevail and some welcome positive news for train passengers.
