2024 marks 50 years since the introduction of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974). A landmark act, which paved the way for subsequent legislation and remains hugely relevant in demonstrating the overarching duty of care that employers have towards employees and non-employees impacted by work-related activities. Much has been accomplished in those 50 years, and much still to do! #togetherforsafety #safetyandcompliance #saferhomes

Let's work on improving health and safety methods in the workplace, by focusing on prevention and support of hearing loss and tinnitus 🎧 🔊 Research carried out by Sound Training Solutions has shown that effective hearing protection is not always worn, with the main reasons being: 'The other's don't wear them' and 'I won't be able to hear what they're saying'. If hearing loss and/or tinnitus happens in the workplace, the employer is liable and action can be taken from the employee, regardless of whether they were told to wear the hearing protection or not. The wider issues of hearing loss and tinnitus are a significant impact on staff mental health and wellbeing, audiology/doctor's appointments, and potentially other days absent due to stress-related issues. Training must be consistent, ongoing, and attended by all staff in all workplaces (including leaders/senior management). 💡 Looking to book insightful training sessions for your workplace? 💡 All sessions are one hour, or a combination of sessions can be blended and delivered for two hours or half a day, either in the day, evening or weekend, online or in person at your workplace! 💡Transform, Adapt and Evolve as Leaders 💡The Art of Detachment 💡Unravel Your Rivalry 💡The Science of Communication 💡Sound in the Workplace 💡Inclusion 💡Mental Health and Wellbeing 💡The First Arrow Always Hits 💡Mindful vs Mind Full 💡Mental Diet 💡Abuse (domestic; mental and physical) 💡Suicide Awareness 💡The Science of Sound 💡Loneliness and Isolation 💡Hearing Loss and Tinnitus 💡Mindset Detox 💡Talk the Talk (The trainer has lived/living experiences of all the above topics, so the delivery is extremely authentic, passionate and powerful) For more information, please contact Vickie Deeks (deaf) at: soundtrainingsolutions@mail.com, or text/WhatsApp: 07447 294832 💙 Health and Safety Executive Sarah Albon #workplace #healthandsafety #hearinglossprevention #wellbeing #hearinglosssupport #mentalhealth #tinnitusawareness #tinnitussupport

Much work done but there is still more to do … Education and raising awareness of the hazards involved in workplaces can only further reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries sustained …. And it must start at the top of an organisation. Without Leadership support, making changes can be difficult

The Health and Safety at work act was transformational in resetting the approach to workplace safety and health in the UK and beyond. Implementing the recommendations of the Robens report 1972 (Cmnd 5034) it provided a step change approach to safety and health at work. I started my career in occupational hygiene around that time, spurred on by the importance Robens afforded to occupational/industrial hygiene. (Checkout Robens paragraph 356, chapter 11).

Today marks half a century since the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 received Royal Assent in the UK. The Act has stood the test of time to provide the baseline for health and safety management and its principles remain as relevant now as they did in the summer of ’74 #healthandsafetyatworkact

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. I take a second to reflect upon the significance and importance in the workplace. Since its inception, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 has been a cornerstone of workplace safety in the UK. As we navigate the evolving landscape of the modern workplace, it’s crucial that we continue to build on this strong foundation. Together, we must Identify emerging risks and develop innovative solutions to address them. The workplace is evolving, and so must our approach to health and safety#HASAW1974
