Should Lee Carsley and his England scouts cover non-league football instead of Category 3 academies? 👇 👇 In March, there were more players selected for England U20 and U21 who spent time in the non-leagues / grassroots between the ages of 15-18 than players who were at Cat 3 academies during the same period. Players like Martial Godo (Margate) Alex Scott (Guernsey), Ronnie Edwards (Barnet), Sam Tickle (Pilkington), and Jaden Philogene (Pro-Direct Academy) developed outside the Cat 1-3 system but quickly established themselves as the best in the country within their age groups. The numbers don't lie: more players with non-league experience have earned call-ups to our national youth squads than all the scholars from Cat 3 academies combined... What's the takeaway? This isn't merely about a few overlooked players slipping through the net. It begs the question: Is there a systematic problem here, or, are the non-leagues a gold mine of emerging talent? #NLG

Helping business owners succeed for over 20 years | Financial wizard behind the curtain | Experienced FD | Supporting growth, turnaround and exit strategies | Finance coaching
Are you a Leicester City or Manchester City? In 2016 Leicester City for the first time in their history won the English Premier League 🥇. It was a a fairytale story for the club who managed to win against the odds achieving the ultimate goal of winning the league. Since then Manchester City has won 6 of the last 8 titles becoming one of the most successful teams in recent years (financial irregularities aside 😁 ) Most business owners will set goals 🥅 at some point and with a good team, favourable economy and a bit of luck will achieve the one-off goal. Once the goal is achieved a lot of owners don't know what to do next or lose the drive and motivation to go to the next level. They settle for the one-off achievement. What differentiates the great owners from the good is the ability to continually reset goals and push to hit the goal over a long time irrespective of what is happening in the economy or changes to the team. What keeps you motivated and accountable to reach your goals?

Going back to support Leeds Tykes last year got our CEO Mike Aspinall thinking alot about sports careers… Sporting careers are short lived, accounting for only 19% of your life on average It then takes a huge plunge by the age of 35 ⬇️, as opposed to the rest of the normal workforce who reach peak earnings between ages 39 to 55. What’s the plan after? 9 years ago AFTER retiring from rugby… Choices, Freedom & Security were all part of @Hannahaspinallproperty and Mikes initial motivation and passion to start investing in property 🏡 And they wish they started sooner! Property investing isn't just about the financial gains… It's about securing the freedom of choice. It allows you to have power over your future, pursue your passions, and live life on your own terms. We would urge any sporting professional to consider investing in property whilst they can, knowing if the worst should ever happen, they will be able to maintain the lifestyle they want. https://lnkd.in/ek5JQE6U A fascinating article which highlights what is possible
What a pleasure to return to newspaper writing with a piece about two schools I hold dear both taking intelligent steps to mitigate risks in schools rugby while championing skill and ingenuity over brute strength. Thanks to all who assisted with this article Richard Dixon Glenn Harrison Sally-Anne Huang Joanne Thomson Rhiannon Harris James Grant Laura Hitchcock Sophie Moore I’ve always been a huge supporter of schools rugby and it’s reassuring so many smart, caring and passionate people are taking steps to address entirely reasonable parental concern about the heightened risk of injury which resulted from the sport’s shift to professionalism.
‘There is another way’: how schools are tackling rugby’s head injury crisis

Sad news this week - our local football team has gone into administration. From watching as kids and harbouring ambitions of one day being paid to play football, Torquay United represent everything great about lower league football and is great place to spend our Saturday afternoons. From being close to the action, to being a central fixture in the local community and a world away from the millionaire premier league - as anyone who follows football at this level, it’s fun, infuriating and filled with camaraderie. And now they’re at serious risk of going under, so we thought we’d post here and see what can be done - there’s great potential for the right person or turnaround specialists and why not use the LinkedIn community. Crucially, TUFC don’t own their ground, so little on offer today in real asset terms, but hopefully Torbay Council can support the plan to develop a new stadium in the long term and provide a multipurpose venue for the community and a team that could well be the next team to ‘do a Wrexham’ and create a case for investing in the club. #football #investment #investmentopportunity #specialistfinance #turnaroundmanagement #torquay #privateequity #venturecapital #privateassets Torquay United Football Club https://lnkd.in/eJksCMrE
