Sixfold rise in foreign care workers in UK complaining of exploitation. Whilst sponsors are losing licences, there are no real solutions for victims beyond finding alternative employment. This is not easy despite what you may hear about vacancies. People I speak to have lost everything and are trapped. We Work Rights Centre are supporting and representing numerous people with claims against employers and applications to the Home Office. But it's not enough. I'm disappointed by the Government line in this piece. It is not enough to revoke licences. Support, prosecutions, status and compensation are significantly lacking. https://lnkd.in/eTvAVYmk

Solution to the problem is as simple as I see I dont think there is shortage of care manpower in uk itself, there are lot of qualified people waiting for opportunity from a legit employer. I was shocked by the fact that home office approves overseas COS in 1 day or max 20 days time frame with further clarification, while the employer has to wait for 18 weeks if they want to hire someone qualified and who is already in UK 😀. Even if you find alternative employer you will not be able to meet the time frame. Secondly, instead of make a huge investment in hiring qualified overseas candidate why not to train someone fresher in Uk with that insane amount. For eg: train your carer to become a nurse, consider limited gap as skill already learned can be revived with practise. Both employer and homeoffice must come to some point to solve this crisi

It will get worse, with minimum pay having risen to £11.90 per hour for overseas care worker, many will not be extending sponsorship when existing ones end

Agree on all points - proper enforcement and fast track remediation needed.

Couldn’t agree more Luke Piper a great initiative. Have been talking to many families facing the same situation.
