Many credential issuers often rely on a technological solution for microcredentials – they issue them in the form of badges, which can include detailed information about the skills, competencies, and assessments a microcredential represents. Unfortunately, this solution cannot yet be implemented at scale, as a recent report confirms that hiring platforms used by many employers are unable to intake the metadata from these digital credentials. https://lnkd.in/eqqgtp5e

🧠Great insight by Meena Naik and Jobs for the Future (JFF). 💡Credentials are currency, right? So, how do we create the market conditions that value the new forms of credentials??? 👉As credentials become less binary (degree vs. no degree) and more skills/competency based, we need to engage the people and organizations/systems to validate this work. 🔥“We must improve the way the market works—creating mechanisms for all stakeholders to choose the credential best suited to their goals and to use credentials as one of many reliable indicators of workers’ capabilities.”
Check out our new Centering Credential Transparency: A Case-Making Guide, created in collaboration with Credential Engine! How can we create credential transparency to support a future credential marketplace for everyone? This guide discusses why linked open data is a foundational element for this marketplace and offers one of the most robust and accessible avenues to achieve this vision as a place to start: the Credential Transparency Description Language (CTDL) framework. Through this guide, organizations are enabled to take the first step laid out on JFF’s roadmap for supporting a future credential marketplace for all: creating credential transparency. As a standardized and interconnected data format, CTDL provides a common language and data structure organizations can leverage in a future where users can seamlessly explore diverse credentials and evaluate them side by side, ultimately creating an empowered marketplace that allows stakeholders to make informed educational and career choices.
