We tend to overestimate or underestimate our own skills more often than we think. A YouGov survey found that 27% of Britons believe they could qualify for the 2028 Olympics if they started training today. Bold! 😄 Similar behaviors show up in AI proficiency. On Workera, just ~11% of users accurately assessed their skill level before taking the adaptive AI assessment. 32% of users overestimate their AI skills by 20% or more, while 56% underestimate their proficiency by a similar margin. These differences are often shaped by cultural factors and vary from one organization to another. Oh also... YouGov reports that men are more confident than women about making the Olympic team (30% vs 25%). I don't have the exact gender breakdown on Workera for AI skills, but I want to look into it.
