Two simple steps to join startup circles 🌀 Step 1: Get out there and connect with people Being in Saigon is fantastic for networking, but you can cultivate connections anywhere. Attend various events to build relationships. Smaller gatherings are often more effective; for instance, I've met many people at venture capital events over the years. I attended 2 to 3 events a week and even hosted some myself. I have been simply working on my startup and participating in events. Step 2: Take initiative and “do things” This is more intuitive, but you’ll recognize it when you experience it. People are naturally attracted to those who are actively engaged and pursuing their passions. You don't need to be wildly successful—perhaps you’re launching a project or deeply invested in a hobby. Having a large network isn’t necessary to start; people are drawn to your momentum and enthusiasm. Startup culture thrives on relationships—genuine ones. Whatever your passion is, work on it and tell people. It's that simple.

Startup Founders based outside of SF, NY, and Boston often wonder, “Do I have to move to make it?” 🤔 As someone who built my first 2 companies in the Bay Area, I know the power of the network effect that a major startup hub offers. 🤝 Let’s assume for a moment that you don’t want to live in one of the big 3 tech markets. You could simply write them off, but that would be a mistake. Nobody cares where you rest your head at night, but why would you not build relationships, take in ideas, participate in experiences, and so much more? 💡 I would pick one of the big 3 as your mothership and make trips as often as you can, once every month or two is ideal. Stack your visit with 5-10 meetings per day, attend events, talk to investors and prospective clients, and make the town yours. That way you’ll enjoy the best of both worlds. Share your experiences with all of us on social media. You’ll become incredibly useful to your hometown’s Startup Community because you're importing ideas and relationships. You will also be helpful to the major tech market you're visiting because they want to connect with other cities.
