With last year's rejection of the Menopause Bill by UK parliament due to fears of discrimination against men, an important spotlight has been shone on women’s health in the workplace. Whilst this issue is now gaining more mainstream recognition, women have been suffering silently in work environments for decades, navigating conditions such as menopause and perimenopause, endometriosis, PCOS and the symptoms associated with periods, which can all have a significant impact on women's ability to work. In this article for Maddyness, Lesley Cooper lays out how little formal protection there is for women’s health at work, and the key areas which need to be addressed so organisations are better prepared to protect women’s health at work. #womenshealth #womeninbusiness #wellness #wellbeingatwork

This #MenopauseAwarenessMonth, it's essential for organisations to recognise menopause as a key workplace issue. With around a third of UK women currently experiencing menopause or perimenopause, employers must take proactive steps to ensure an inclusive environment. Symptoms like brain fog, hot flushes, and anxiety can significantly affect performance and wellbeing, yet many women feel uncomfortable discussing menopause at work for fear of stigma. Menopause isn’t a “women’s issue” – it’s a workplace issue. 👉 Yet, many organisations still don’t talk about it. 👉 Menopause symptoms impact performance, attendance, and wellbeing – and the stigma keeps women silent. But here's the solution: 💡 Create policies that recognise menopause as a critical workplace challenge. Support shouldn’t just be a box-ticking exercise; it must be authentic and proactive. 🔑 How can we do this? Train managers to identify and address menopause symptoms sensitively. Don’t leave women to suffer in silence. Offer flexibility: Adjust work hours, break times, and provide remote work options. Create menopause champions: Internal advocates can lead the charge in raising awareness and fostering open conversations. Normalise the conversation: Menopause must be openly discussed, just like any other health issue. Design tailored benefits: Ensure that employee wellness programmes cater to menopause, with resources like mental health support and counselling. Engage male colleagues: Include everyone in the discussion – men should understand how menopause affects their colleagues and team dynamics. Address legal implications: Menopause could soon become a recognised issue under the Equality Act. Get ahead of potential discrimination claims by developing clear, supportive policies. ⚡ A supportive workplace can be transformative – not only for the employee but for the organisation’s culture and retention rates. 🚀 Are you ready to lead this change? 👇 What’s your first step towards supporting menopause in your workplace?

Recognizing the Value of Post-Menopausal Women in Healthcare In the healthcare industry, the expertise and dedication of post-menopausal women are invaluable. These women have spent decades honing their skills, providing compassionate care, and contributing significantly to the medical field. However, many face unique challenges during this stage of life that can impact their well-being and productivity. As someone who has experienced menopause firsthand, I understand these challenges intimately. After menopause, I struggled with weight gain and found it difficult to maintain proper nutrition while managing a demanding work schedule. The busy days often meant skipping meals or choosing convenience over health, leading to a decline in my overall well-being. These experiences highlighted the need for better support systems in the workplace, especially for women navigating this life stage. At Rebalanceher Health Coaching, we recognize these challenges and the critical role post-menopausal women play in the healthcare industry. That's why we offer tailored wellness workshops designed to address the specific needs of women in this life phase. Our programs focus on providing practical strategies for maintaining a healthy weight, making nutritious choices despite busy schedules, and managing stress effectively. Our workshops promote a supportive and inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued and empowered.
