Would you rather hire a robot or a recent college graduate? For an alarming number of HR leaders, the machine wins. A recent survey from Hult International Business School in Cambridge, Mass., reveals a troubling reality: Nearly 8 in 10 recent graduates say they learned more in their first six months on the job than in their entire four years of college. What’s more, employers are so wary of unprepared graduates that they’re taking drastic measures to keep from hiring them.

How do you attract and keep your best people? Recruitment and retention in higher education is a hot topic of conversation right now. And for good reason. Many employees are not just feeling their professional development is overlooked, but that they are actively deskilling at a time when technology is full speed ahead. How are we going to ensure we are offering meaningful learning, growth, and advancement opportunities in colleges and universities? How are we going to ensure that staff have the dedicated time to invest in their own learning? One idea I heard recently is about making space for employees to talk about their "side hustles" at work. And not just talk about them, but receive support and even credit for their work outside of their full- or part-time employment. More and more, we are seeing folks who lack advancement opportunities or in-house recognition for informal learning disengaging from their work. Especially with more entrepreneurial-minded digitally savvy people entering the workforce, now is a perfect time to show out-of-the-box thinking and innovation. What have you noticed about the gig economy and its influence on your workplace or colleagues? What about the impact on students?

🌟 Why Do Employers Overlook Candidates with Education but Little Experience? 🌟 I’ve been reflecting on a common challenge: why do employers often look past candidates who have the education but lack extensive experience? It’s a question that’s both frustrating and baffling, especially when so many of us have invested significant time and effort to gain the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to contribute effectively in the workplace. I’m eager to understand why companies might overlook motivated, educated candidates who are eager to learn, adapt, and prove their value. Education provides a strong foundation, and many of us are fast learners who are ready to grow with the right guidance and opportunity. What can candidates like myself do to bridge this gap? And how can employers better support entry-level talent that’s passionate about making a positive impact? #JobSearch #CareerQuestions #LearningAndDevelopment #CareerGrowth #HR #FutureLeaders

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐙'𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 👉 For almost two years, company managers have been complaining about the difficulties of working with Generation Z. Now, it’s no longer just talk. According to Fortune, organizational leaders are quickly dismissing young workers who are underperforming or unfamiliar with professional norms and expectations, sometimes just a few months after hiring them. 👉 Experts argue that it's not only the younger generation's fault. They point out that the current educational system is too theoretical and does not prepare students for the real world or effective workplace communication. In a recent survey, 6 out of 10 employers reported that they had to quickly fire some Gen Z employees who had just graduated and entered the workforce this year. This issue is not limited to recent graduates; it may impact future graduates as well. 👉 A significant number of employers are dissatisfied with Gen Z workers due to their lack of motivation and initiative, with 50% of managers citing this as the main reason for failed collaborations. Other reasons include unprofessional behavior, poor organization, and weak communication skills. Many managers say that these graduates aren’t ready for the workplace. 👉 This problem is recognized even by universities, with some attempting to bridge the gap by offering programs to improve practical skills. However, the lack of workplace readiness isn’t just a problem for the younger generation. According to HR experts, the educational system and employers also share the blame. Employers often expect graduates to be fully prepared without offering adequate training, leading to a cycle of failure. 👉 Ultimately, the key to success in the workplace seems to be attitude. When asked what would improve the chances of hiring graduates, managers emphasized the importance of a positive attitude and initiative. Maintaining a proactive approach and being eager to learn can make a significant difference in long-term career success. ❓ How can academic institutions entertain this capability necessary for a successful career by adapting their mostly theoretical-oriented programs? #Gen_z #career #workplace #education #newconcept_for_academia
