Today is #PTSDAwarenessDay and its Day 4 of our week of raising awareness of traumatic stress caused by the nature of work. PTSD occurs when the brain is unable to continue normal function during, or normalise after, an event which it perceives as traumatic. An element of stress following such events is perfectly normal, but if this continues it may develop into a disorder. When work roles or tasks expose employees to distressing or potentially traumatic situations, materials, or accounts, there needs to be understanding in the work environment of the response and potential outcome, if they are left unsupported. All this week Gaia Workplace Wellbeing Founder Samantha Langford MSc, a former Crime Scene Investigator, is sharing information to help raise awareness of work-related traumatic stress, and what you can do to manage it, and support employees.
