deliberateImpact Recruitment is proudly 5 weeks old now and hitting the ground running!!!!! Having said that - I thought it was worth mentioning on freezing Melbourne winter days, that nearly every third meeting planned with wonderful clients and candidates, and nearly every second person I speak to on the phone has been unlucky enough to catch a winter virus, COVID (again) or they have sick children or dependents at home (including my house!!). What's made this a lot more positive all round, is the patience and courtesy professional workplaces are showing to their teams when these unfortunate illnesses strike. Workplaces are becoming increasing more tolerant and understanding of personal circumstances and being able to support their staff through unavoidable times. If you feel like you're not being supported this winter, and it's time for a change (working with great teams, with great senior leadership), it's time to reach out and start having discussions about where to from here. deliberateImpact Recruitment we are all about fitting the right candidates into the right roles for the perfect culture fit. If you'd like to have a chat, please reach out to me lyndsey.walker@deliberateimpact.com.au In the meantime - stay warm, stay well, and look after your friends and family! #careers #recruitment #marketing #communications #fundraising #staywell #winterchill

Professional People-Person | HR Guy & Certified Life Coach | Helping You Reach Your Goals is What I Do!
Today, I feel compelled to share thoughts that go beyond my usual posts... Recent events have stirred deep reflection on where we stand as a nation and as individuals. While I'm an HR professional and aspiring Life Coach, I’m also just a human being, citizen, and neighbor. I believe in using my platform for social good. The shocking event that occured this weekend highlights the heightened tensions we are facing in the US, and the damage that can be done by malice. As people come to work on Monday, we wonder how the situation will be discussed. Will differing opinions lead to hostility, or can we engage in civil discourse? This is a critical moment for HR and business leaders to set the right tone. This moment underscores our divisions but also offers an opportunity to course correct—as individuals, workplaces, and as a nation. Whether you're a leader or an individual contributor, shaping a safe and respectful environment is our collective responsibility. And outside of work, we all have an equal responsibility. Together, let's pave the way for a brighter future where empathy and unity prevail—a place where everyone feels valued, heard, respected, and safe. It’s up to each of us to play our part, no matter how big or small, in creating the workplaces and world we want to see. It’s time for positive action. Encourage positive civil engagement. Consider organizing office-wide volunteer events or initiatives that promote community involvement. And let’s keep our workplaces politically neutral while encouraging voter participation—because our workplaces and nation thrive when everyone is engaged in shaping their future.

I marked myself as "exempt" from the Dry January proceedings, but kudos 🫶 to those who are 78% of the way there. But according to this article from Courtney Vinopal, corporate happy hours hold less appeal than they once did, and New Year's 🥂 resolutions are *not* a contributing factor. With distributed work forces more common, companies are seeking new ways to bring workers together. ⭐ Cesar Carvalho (he/his), the CEO of Gympass has noticed a move away from "happy hours" to activities that focus more on "wellness" as a way to build community. ⭐ Leah Goodridge, an attorney for housing policy at the nonprofit Mobilization for Justice supports bonding that isn't centered around alcohol exclusively. ⭐ Daphne Earp Hoppenot, founder and CEO of The Vendry is another champion of team building activities where alcohol is not excluded, but is not the center of team building. If your team is operating in a remote / distributed fashion, why not explore book clubs on Fable as a way to build connectedness, up-skill talent and support your team's mental wellness? It is essential to ensure that these workplace social events are enjoyed safety and align with good practise. In advance of such events, it is prudent to issue clear communications to staff that include, but are not limited to, a reminder that appropriate standard of conduct is expected and that the organisation’s code of conduct, dignity at work health and safety as well as other relevant policies continue to apply. ➡️ Members can access sample communication on our website here https://lnkd.in/ejDrnw4H Linda Reid, Magda Kozub, Aoife McFadden, Adrian Norton, Kevin Feighery, Muireann McEnery #Ibec #EmploymentLaw

Training and Development Specialist @ ICIEC | Certified Human Resource Professional/Manager and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB)
Dr. Hakeem's insights shed light on a common workplace challenge: dealing with gossipers, negative influencers, and toxic individuals. These individuals may initially seem harmless, but their impact on morale and productivity can be significant. By recognizing and distancing ourselves from such negativity, we pave the way for a healthier, more positive work environment where productivity thrives. Let's heed Dr. Hakeem's advice, focusing on fostering positivity, productivity, and a culture of respect in our workplace interactions.

A few weeks ago I was invited to participate in a webinar with Sarah Jenner and Mindful Employer to talk about building and engaging effectives teams. As our conversation went on, we touched on how to support team members who are navigating health care systems as patients and caregivers. A key element of this includes ensuring that team members feel seen and heard as well as set up for success in their roles. To all my friends in HR and people leader roles - what has your experience been? How have you supported team members through patient and/or caregiver experiences? Did you feel equipped? To anyone who has had to navigate a non-routine patient or caregiver experience - how did this impact your work? Did you feel comfortable disclosing your journey to your employer? I'm very curious to know...
A few weeks ago, Farah joined Sarah Jenner, Executive Director of Mindful Employer, for their Ask-the-Expert webinar. Farah brought her expertise and experience in patient engagement, communications, and marketing to share insights about: - Common mistakes leaders make in fostering team cohesion and her alternatives; - Staying connected with team members; - Fostering a sense of belonging within teams; and - Strategies for effective team meetings. Farah also shared insights on supporting employees navigating the health care system, whether as patients, caregivers or both. Creating a safe, secure and supportive workplace ensures employees feel valued and can continue to deliver their best and help the organization succeed. At Unum Co., we focus on centering patient experiences both in the work place and in health care. We create opportunities for workplaces to develop programs and safe spaces for employees and leaders to navigate life as patients or caregivers. If you're interested in building safe spaces and creating accommodations, we can help!
