**FULL-SPECTRUM RED TEAMING (INCLUDNG PHYSICAL) WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?** CISO’s/CSO’s/CIO’s/Red Team Practitioners – Are you including physical, in your red team exercises right now? Have you found “buy-in” tough since coming out of lockdown? If so, do you think personally that this is a dangerous position to be in? I’ve been lucky enough to talk at UK and international conferences/keynotes this year, about my 10yr never been caught record as a physical red teamer. It’s been both humbling and super fun. One of my slides is titled “The current state of physical red teaming?” and is aimed at sparking thoughts and debates with the audiences. At QinetiQ we were fully deployed throughout COVID, even during the main lockdown, for pen testing and red teaming, during which we saw a big uptake in remote red teaming (as remote threats rapidly increased) and latterly, more purple teaming. Understandably during COVID, we found that full-spectrum red teaming (including physical) significantly dropped off. There could have been a small argument for, who was looking after the estates while the world was in lock-down, but companies, many of which were facing furlough, redundancies, etc were not going to spend ££ on red teaming empty buildings. I’ve spoken to companies and frustrated CISO’s, even recently, that have taken the approach that they haven’t full-spectrum red teamed since before lock-down and now see this as an accepted risk and cost saving. This takes me back to thoughts of a decade or so ago that “It hasn’t happened to us yet…” and in my honest opinion, a very dangerous mind-set to adapt. What about when it does? I’ve certainly spoken to these companies too, albeit unfortunately for them too late on that occasion, though suddenly they have buy-in from their Senior Management/Boards once again. Lessons learned, too late! What are your thoughts regarding the current state of physical red teaming? Cyber Point Advisory is celebrating its 1st Birthday 🥳 today on Valentine's Day 💝. A reflection from our Founder Dd Budiharto CISSP CISM: Starting my #ownbusiness Cyber Point Advisoryin my 50s after having grown up professionally in a corporate world for 30 years, was like going on a date for the very 1st time 🤪: 🤩 #Excitement - the prospect on starting a journey where I have never set foot before was, and still is, exciting beyond words. 😬 #Nervousness - concerns about making a good, 1st impression. 😰 #Anticipation & #Apprehension - there is a sense of looking forward to the unknown; will there be a chemistry between me and my business? 🫣 #Vulnerability - to be authentic and genuine in the business can be both liberating, yet intimidating. Then I remembered the quote by #PaoloCuelhofrom #TheAlchemist: “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Indeed, the Universe sent its angels to me: 📞 I received tons of phone calls from my friends whom I had not seen or spoken in decades, sharing with me the resources I needed embarking on this journey. 👩🏻💼Abundance of help: designing the logo, ordering business cards, editing the web site, introducing me to the community of small business owners, allowing me to use their business space gratis for meetings, developing legal contracts, introducing me to prospects, etc. ❓There were a few who thought I should abandon my date and go out with them - but I should be something else, not Cyber Point Advisory🤨 💯 My families & friends at personal & professional levels believed in me & my then-soon-to-be 'significant other.' Yes my husband is fully supportive, and I may convince him to join us 🥰 Today, I am grateful for the all the love and support 💕 🫶. It has not been all rainbow 🌈 and unicorn 🦄 but the experiences have been extraordinary. Sharing a few of my lessons learned for those out there who's been thinking about starting your own biz: 👌 You don't have to be perfect and know everything.
