Absolutely! Promoting the wrong individuals can indeed lead to demotivation and frustration among talented employees who may be better suited for the promoted position. This can ultimately result in the departure of skilled employees, causing the organization to lose valuable talents. Thorough evaluation and promoting people for the right reasons are crucial. It's essential not only to assess someone's performance in their current role but also their potential to succeed in the new role!

This is absolutely the most powerful statement in business and exactly where good businesses fail. The flipside is when you are making the decisions it is sometimes tricky to see the full scope the person.

Totally agree and can add another dimension to this- when people are slotted into senior or leadership positions based on relationships. We all love to see people development, but recruitment and promotion processes need to be fair, transparent and justified- not based on a ‘tap on the shoulder’ that leave other staff scratching their heads on the decision. It is often so obvious when this has occurred that it always makes me wonder if the promotee has any insight or reflection on how it looks to other staff. How can they expect to gain respect in this situation?

You cannot always make a leader from a manager. Servant leadership keeps your team together, choosing those that shout loudest will never work if they only shout with their own opinions and voices. Teams need a leader who will listen, understand and support them to be their best, not someone with hidden agendas and a single voice

So critical to promote the right people for the growth of a company! So many times you see the demise of an organisation due to MDs/Senior Management having loyalty to employees which have worked there for a long time and promote on that instead of skill. Forward thinking, fresh ideas are key to staying competitive.

It’s the People That Make You Stay People often stay in a company because of the friendships they build—the genuine connections that make work feel like so much more than just a job. I’ve personally stayed in roles because of the incredible colleagues I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. There’s something truly special about the bonds that form when you go through challenges together, brainstorm ideas, or celebrate those hard-earned wins. These aren’t just work relationships—they become friendships that last a lifetime. A strong team with real camaraderie creates an environment where everyone thrives. That’s the kind of culture that makes people want to stay, grow, and succeed. #TeamCamaraderie #Leadership #CompanyCulture #WorkplaceFriendships #PeopleFirst
