🚨NSW Labor Party Backs Timber Industry with Unions' Support 👷♀️ The NSW Labor Party has endorsed a motion by the CFMEU Manufacturing Division, with backing from Unions NSW, to support the state’s timber industry. This endorsement includes expanding plantation estates and crucially extending support for the native forest industry, which creates rural and regional jobs and further down the supply chain in NSW. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Union Support: Unions NSW and the CFMEU Manufacturing Division have aligned to bolster the timber industry, emphasising job creation and economic stability in rural and regional areas. 2️⃣ Policy Binding: The motion, adopted at the NSW Labor Annual State Conference, becomes binding on party members and the parliamentary wing. This significant step ensures continued support for the timber industry amidst political debates. 3️⃣ Political Context: The endorsement comes as the Labor Environment Action Network (LEAN) supported a motion (Motion 85) with substantial implications for the hardwood industry across Australia. The revised motion now balances environmental concerns with industry support. 🔗 For more details and ongoing updates from the NSW Labor Annual State Conference, visit Wood Central’s exclusive coverage: https://lnkd.in/gPbp6nmm 🗣️ #questionforgroup: What are your thoughts on balancing environmental sustainability and supporting the timber industry? Is this/are they for real? Has anyone else read this recent LA Times article? We're very curious. Apparently, according to business columnist Michael Hiltzik, the "Wonderful" Company — the world’s largest pistachio and almond grower, the purveyor of Fiji Water, Pom pomegranate juice, Justin wines and owner of the Teleflora flower service — wants you to know that it’s committed to “sustainable farming and business practices” and sees its employees as “a guiding force for good.” And yet, it seems since February, they've been engaged in a ferocious battle with the United Farm Workers over the UFW’s campaign to unionize more than 600 workers in the Central Valley. Carmen Milagro our founder says this about the "WONDERFUL" pistachios... "I usually buy them (pistachios) at farmers markets or from the bulk section at places like Rainbow Grocery. And given our stand on supporting our farmer workers through our DIVINA WORLD Foundation and whether this information is accurate or not, I doubt I'll start buying this brand anytime soon." Thoughts? Comments? Ideas? Rebuttals? https://lnkd.in/gJsEdRvK Published May 16, 2024 #farmworkers #UnitedFarmWorkers #centralvalley #unionworkers #almondgrowers #pistaschiogrowers #sustainable #farming

The lack of an adequate workforce represents the most concrete threat to the efficient operation of dairy processors who work tirelessly to supply healthy, nutrient-dense dairy products to consumers. Yet dairy processors do not have access to a reliable labor pool through our country’s most prominent guestworker program, H-2A. While Congress hasn’t passed meaningful immigration and guestworker program reform in recent years, a new report from the House Agriculture Committee’s Agricultural Labor Working Group provides new momentum for the push to expand the H-2A program to include dairy farms and manufacturers. The latest figures presented in Parliament by department officials in September show that only 11,422 of 20,523 claims (55%) in the department’s database have so far been finalised. This is a small advance on 2022, at which stage 10,992 claims had been finalised. The department’s target for 2024/25 is to resolve a further 268 claims. At that rate, it will take longer than 30 years before all cases are resolved. hashtag#farming hashtag#agriculture hashtag#landbou hashtag#boere hashtag#southafrica hashtag#women hashtag#business hashtag#finance hashtag#tractors hashtag#water hashtag#crops hashtag#nuus hashtag#news hashtag#wool hashtag#southafrica hashtag#chicken hashtag#climate hashtag#meat hashtag#beef hashtag#cattle hashtag#sheep hashtag#pigs hashtag#grain hashtag#soya hashtag#peanuts #maize #wheat hashtag#graan hashtag#suidafrika hashtag#southafrica hashtag#world hashtag#grain hashtag#finansies hashtag#farmingportal hashtag#agrinewsnet hashtag#awards hashtag#legends hashtag#wine hashtag#grapes hashtag#berries hashtag#oranges #landreform #masterplan #hunting #game #wildlife #jag #climate #rain #audiocast #podcast #gmo #farmer#health# Sustainableagriculture #Precisionfarming #Regenerativeagriculture #Organicfarming #Crop management #Soil conservation# Irrigationmanagement #Farm-to-table #Vertical farming #Agricultural technology #Farmingpractices #Croprotation #Livestockmanagement #Agricultural innovation #Food security #Climate-resilient agriculture #Eco-friendlyfarming # Agriculturalresearch #Farming systems #Rural development # Aquaponics #pesticides #poultry #feed
