🎗️Every year, over 400,000 children globally are diagnosed with cancer, and yet it remains one of the least funded areas of research. Raising awareness and supporting these children and their families is vital to finding cures and providing better care. 💛 It’s more than just a statistic; each diagnosis represents a brave child fighting a difficult battle. Early detection, research, and accessible treatments are key to saving lives. Join us in spreading the word, supporting those affected, and advocating for more research into childhood cancers. Every small act of awareness can make a huge impact! #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #EndChildhoodCancer #PediatricCancer #CureChildhoodCancer #GoldRibbon #CancerAwareness

Take a minute to read this.
Last night, In honor of the winning streak that the NC State Men’s basketball team is on through the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, My wife Jess and I watched the ESPN 30:30 documentary on NC State’s 1983 Basketball Team and their improbable run to an NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The title of the documentary is “Survive And Advance”, which is a nod to the now famous motto for that 1983 team during their winning streak. One of the main focus areas of the documentary is Jim Valvano, the legendary Wolfpack Coach and Founder of The V foundation for Cancer Research. Coach Valvano lost his battle with Cancer in 1993 but he left behind words of encouragement and an enthusiastic spirit that will be remembered forever. Jimmy V was an excellent public speaker. Two of my favorite quotes from him are “In every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.” And, “You have to have an enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal. And you have to be willing to work for it.” If you have ten minutes today, I encourage you to watch his famous speech from the 1993 ESPY Awards, which he gave just one month before his death. (https://lnkd.in/e3BSwbh3) To this date, The V Foundation has raised over $353 Million Dollars for Cancer Research. In January of this year, my wife, Jess, was diagnosed with brain cancer. We have been working with the team at Duke Health since her diagnosis and have been the recipients of fantastic care and treatment while at Duke. The Duke Brain Tumor Center has a similar foundation, focused specifically on funding Brain Tumor research at Duke University. That Foundation is called ‘Angels Among Us’. Without the innovative research funded by donations to Angels Among Us, Jess’ treatments for her brain tumor would look a lot different. These donations, no matter how big or small, contribute to research that is saving the lives of thousands of people every year. The 2024 NC State Men’s Basketball team has their own motto - Why Not Us? In every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish the extraordinary by beating cancer - so why not us? Please donate to our fight if you are able to: https://lnkd.in/eAPpjZea

I have been really delayed in starting my fundraising this year for Cycle for Survival. College decisions, huge work project, life…"I don't have time". It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and say "I don't have time" to do the things we care about. But for the past decade, I've made time to ride in Cycle for Survival - this year marks my 10th year. I ride to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's research and to help "buy time" for our loved ones battling cancer. That's what MSK did for me and does for many, many others. Cycle for Survival not only provides crucial research funding but also ensures that donations quickly make it into the labs of MSK doctors and scientists. Every dollar counts, and through today only, every contribution will be matched, doubling your impact. Contribute a small amount today and help us buy more time for those fighting cancer. https://lnkd.in/eR2dMR6F

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month to raise awareness of childhood cancers and how childhood cancer affects families. For this year, A Month of Movement aims to encourage you to move more for the month of September and raise vital funds for research into children’s cancers as you go. Move an extra 30 minutes for 30 days with your children this month. I know school has started but that is all the more reason to move more with your children. You can do 30 minutes at once, break it up into two 15-minute activities or three 10-minute activities. This will be good for you AND good for your children! What are some easy ways that you can get your family to move this month? Write your ideas in the comments. #childhoodcancerawareness #amonthofmovement

Our goal is to find a cure for children’s cancer, especially the more than 50 types of sarcoma that affect around 900 children each year. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that occurs in the connective tissue of the body, such as muscle, fat, and fibrous tissue. The most common sarcomas found in children are: 🎗Rhabdomyosarcoma – a tumor in which malignant cancer cells look like young, immature muscle cells (the most common soft tissue sarcoma found in children) 🎗Osteosarcoma – a type of bone cancer that starts in immature bone cells that normally form new bone tissue, then it destroys local tissue and weakens the bone (affects about 400 children and adolescents under the age of 20 each year) 🎗Ewing sarcoma – the second most common bone cancer in children (most often occurs in adolescents, with nearly half of cases arising between the ages of 10 and 20) Join us in our mission to accelerate research to put an end to sarcoma so that every child can enjoy a long, healthy life. I am amazed by how many of my fellow Allspringers have joined the Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer distance challenge in 2024 – we are at 434 Strong! It is a cause close to my heart, taking my dad way to early. It is designed to make a difference where 100% of participant-raised dollars through the Distance Challenge goes to cancer research as well as financial assistance for young adult cancer survivors. I can appreciate how many of us have our specific charities, and that is totally understandable. …so here’s my simple ask: Just “like” this post. That’s all. No strings attached. I have > 4k contacts on LinkedIn and if just 25% of those contacts “likes” this post, it will then go to all of their contacts also….think of the awareness campaign that we will create to fight this awful disease with the much needed research that the worlds best scientists are working on now. I am a firm believer that together we can make a difference. (…If you want to make a donation, terrific- here’s my link, but if you just “like” this post, we’ll accomplish a lot also!!) https://lnkd.in/eZzWrxpF (Here I am crushing a ride with #CodyRigsby on my #Peleton reppin’ in my Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer gear!!)
