From 9 TWh to 45 TWh: Urgent policy intervention is needed for #UndergroundHydrogenStorage (UHS) to Achieve EU climate goals! Read the full article on Euractiv 👉 https://lnkd.in/gz2G2uSB A recent study by Artelys and Frontier Economics, published in April 2024, revealed that achieving the 2030 ambitions set by REPowerEU cost-effectively will require a significant increase in UHS capacity, reaching 45 TWh. Key Insights: 🔹 Holistic EU System Planning: An integrated approach is crucial to unlock the full potential of the synergies between molecules and electrons, enabling a cohesive energy strategy. 🔹 Capacity Needs: Europe's underground hydrogen storage capacity needs to reach 45 TWh by 2030 to meet REPowerEU targets, a substantial increase from the 9 TWh currently planned. 🔹 Economic Benefits: Investing in and delivering this additional UHS capacity would yield a significant net economic benefit of €2.5 billion per year, totaling over €30 billion across 20 years. 🔹 Policy Support: Policymakers must create favorable conditions for the market to deliver necessary investments and provide EU support to overcome initial barriers in the nascent hydrogen market. #Flexibility and #Efficiency in the #EnergySystem: 🔺 UHS plays a pivotal role in providing flexibility in an energy system increasingly powered by variable renewable electricity. 🔺 The hydrogen sector, particularly UHS, offers a complementary strategy to electrification and helping industrial stakeholders achieve decarbonization and energy autonomy. Strategic Recommendations: ✅ Develop a dedicated EU hydrogen storage strategy immediately, avoiding silo-thinking and promoting interconnected systems. ✅ Build on synergies across sectors, including molecules and electrons, to ensure a competitive, resilient, and climate-neutral economy in Europe. ✅ De-risk vital investment for expanding the UHS industry at the EU level. Join the Conversation: We invite you to join us at the GIE Annual Conference on 17-18 October in Munich, Germany, to further discuss this key policy topic with over 300 energy experts. 🔰https://lnkd.in/ebJm8VMf Charlotte Roule 夏澜 Doug Waters Christopher Andrey Catherine Galano (L’Hostis) #RenewableEnergy #HydrogenStorage #EnergyTransition #EU2030 #SustainableFuture #GIEAC24

It is crucial that #GreenHydrogen plays an important role in the EU's #EnergyTransition policy. Green hydrogen is a viable solution for the #Decarbonisation of non-electrifiable sectors such as transport: heavy and long-distance transport, shipping and aviation. Moreover, its use in the coming decades will contribute to increasing the demand for electricity from #RenewableEnergy, boosting the energy transition. https://lnkd.in/ed-SBMuc

Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
Your talk as Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fails to talk about fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M You are, as the nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
Smart Energy Council #smartenergy2024 Day Two bought together #solutions from across industries. Danny Kennedy from New Energy Nexus opened with a stark reminder that - it’s the Bs and Ts, not the Ms, that matter for investment. Zoe Whitton from Pollination showcased the urgency of #deployment and the importance of understanding #Australia’s #cleantech #supplychain advantages - we need to focus! The theme of focus was picked up again by James Choi, Richard Andrews, Florence Lindhaus Scott Hamilton and Larry Marshall in the afternoon discussion about green export opportunities. Speaking to priorities, Matthew Cooke and Joshua-Clark Hollingsworth from the First Nations Chamber of Commerce and Industry outlined the range of ways that early engagement with First Nations communities can greenlight projects, while upstairs the First Nations Clean Energy Network presented a latest project win (cameo of the group at the end of the video!) Simon Holmes à Court emphasised the importance of getting on with the job we know how to do rather than waiting for new technology to break through in future: ‘never say never, but nuclear won’t help Australia decarbonise now’. Always a joy to spend time with Katherine McConnell who skillfully led our #electrify everything panel where I shared the latest research from Beyond Zero Emissions (links in comments). Amandine Denis-Ryan and Tristan Edis outlined the emissions and economics for renewables over gas for households. And the remarkable Prof Renate Egan highlighted how this applies from the lab bench to her own rooftop!

📣 The closer the EU 2030 targets are, the more investments are needed. Specifically, in this decade, the Union will have to invest more than 1,200 billion a year in decarbonising the energy and transport sectors. An effort of almost 75% more than that of the decade 2011-2020. Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, reminded the House of this. What is it? The multi-level platform brings together energy and financial experts from all EU countries to evaluate and update funding schemes and thus mobilise new resources in the context of the REPowerEU plan and the European Green Deal. To the reunion anniversary, reached the second edition, Simson has brought all the experience of the Executive and explicit the direction in which the next efforts in a matter of clean transition will be concentrated. #SENnews #environmnent #globalwarming #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainabledevelopment

The REA hosted their ‘Financing the Clean Energy Transition' event yesterday as part of #LCAW2024. Panelist Kiran Arora comments: "A diverse crowd always generates the best ideas and it was no different at the REA's Event: 'Financing the Clean Energy Transition', which was attended by banks, funds, technical advisors, think tanks, SMEs, academics and, of course, lawyers. We covered a wide range of connected ideas in the two panels and the discussions either side of them. There were some great new insights as well as underscoring the importance of some classic fundamentals. Here are a few of the key takeaways that we noted: 💰 The energy transition (on any credible timetable) requires a significant increase in the rate of investment, in particular from the private sector 👩💻The public sector has a number of levers available to guide and stimulate investment including grants, guarantees, blended finance, planning and regulatory reform and 'soft' guidance on its industrial strategy 💹 Investors are willing to work hard and with creativity to shape and deliver an appropriate risk weighted return but are looking for stability and guidance from government 🖊A clear industrial strategy for the next 5-10 years is crucial to help guide the private sector to the areas of greatest public need 🏦 The skills gap is likely to remain an issue until there is confidence in the long-term strategy and people see training/retraining as an opportunity rather than a risk 📓 Any new government is likely to want to show strong fiscal discipline, which will make it particularly important for them to use funds for maximum catalytic effect 🎐 Different sub-sectors require different solutions, EV charging networks, nuclear, CCUS, solar PV, BESS, offshore wind, long duration storage etc. are all at different stages of maturity with very different technical and commercial challenges 📉 Consumer behaviour and demand is critical and has not received the attention that it needs to date 🔉 Improved communication is essential: Clean Energy is already cheaper than high carbon alternatives and investment in the energy transition will make the UK wealthier (not poorer). #EnergyTransition #SustainableFinance
