Dr. Mudasiru Bola, the National Secretary General of the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE) has stated that in engineering, “Technology, People, and Delivery” refers to the three key elements that are crucial for successful project outcomes which is better described as the engineering hat trick to become a unicorn engineer in the profession. Speaking on a topic: Innovative Leadership in Engineering, A Tool for Reforming Engineering Education at the ongoing 10th UNESCO African Week and 8th African Engineering Conference in Luanda, Angola, “the expert proposes a curricular reform in African engineering education, incorporating design thinking, problem-solving, and other cutting-edge approaches to foster a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration, consistent with the UNESCO Engineering Education Framework and the IEA (International Engineering Alliance) Graduate Attributes.” https://lnkd.in/g2MvgakZ #nse #nihte #engineering #civilengineering #Highway

📁 💼 On Wednesday, April 10th 2024 the RELiEF Consortium met in Bruxelles with our EC Project Officer from CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency for its 1st Interim Review. This was the opportunity to take stock of the activities carried out by the project in its first half, as well as to plan the future ones in order to achieve RELiEF's objectives, to reduce #lithiumwaste by more than 70% through the use of previously unused secondary lithium sources. 🔋 Want to find out more about the project? 🔔 We're excited to announce that my research paper, titled "Quantifying Carbon Emissions from Excavation and Embankment Activities in Road Construction," has been published in the SINERGI Journal. This study sheds light on the carbon emissions generated during cut and fill operations, with a key focus on the dominant role of material transportation in road construction. The findings emphasize the importance of adopting sustainable construction practices to reduce the carbon footprint of infrastructure projects. We are grateful to all who have supported me throughout this research journey, and I look forward to contributing further to sustainability initiatives in the construction sector. 🌍 Published Paper Alert! 🌍 Excited to announce that my peer-reviewed research was presented at The Fourteenth International Conference on Construction in the 21st Century (CITC-14) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our paper, "Achieving Sustainability in Civil Engineering Projects in Nigeria: A Case for Climate Change," investigates the crucial link between infrastructure development and climate resilience—an urgent issue amidst Nigeria’s rapid urbanization. 📊 Guided by my interests in sustainable construction and climate adaptation, this research provides qualitative insights from seasoned professionals in the construction industry and reveals several key findings: 1. Growing awareness of climate impacts, including flooding, heatwaves, biodiversity loss, and health issues 2. Adoption of sustainable practices like renewable energy, green land conservation, and low-carbon materials in highway and building projects 3. There is still a persistent knowledge gap within the construction industry about climate change 🔑 The study emphasizes the urgent need for the construction sector to shift towards climate-conscious practices. Achieving this will require targeted awareness campaigns, legislative support, incentives, and public-private partnerships to ensure sustainable growth. 🌟 This research contributes to ongoing discussions on sustainable infrastructure development addressing the SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 13 (Climate Action) as highlighted by the United Nations in 2015 and provides recommendation actions to address climate challenges in the construction sector particularly in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Feel free to access the paper here on https://lnkd.in/eynXg2Sw or reach out to discuss further! #Sustainability #ClimateChange #Infrastructure #ConstructionIndustry #UnitedNations #SDGs #Construction #CivilEngineering #UniversityofWolverhampton #CITC #Research #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment

#SaveTheDate: ARISE Online Workshop on effective market implementation of sustainable energy and digital skills in the construction sector. ARISE H2020 Project is organising an online workshop as an online international communication event, to allow the stakeholders of the building supply chain from different countries to share experiences and opinions on market demand and implementation of competencies and skills in the procurement of building projects. 🏗️ ARISE’s global goal is to revolutionise the learning process by changing both the delivery and recognition of #sustainableenergyskills in the #construction sector. The new system of training and recognition of skills will be valid across the EU, thus increasing the spread of a #skilledworkforce in the building market. By providing clear learning interactions, transparency of upskilling transactions, and recognition of qualifications achieved, ARISE inspires demand for sustainable energy skills. 🍃 The result of the event will be brought to the attention of the European stakeholders to propose recommendations to all member states to adopt a common approach. The event is organised by ARISE Partner Institute for Research in Environment, Civil Engineering and Energy (IECE), North Macedonia. 📆 10 September 2024 ⏰ 11:00 - 12:00 (CET) 📍 Online 📒 Agenda ➡️https://lnkd.in/eBbbzUEF ✍🏽 Register today at ➡️https://shorturl.at/7kqfD
