World Green Building Council’s Post

Most nation’s climate plans (NDCs – Nationally Determined Contributions) and policies are overlooking something extremely big: the mitigation and adaptation potential of the built environment. That’s why we’re currently developing an NDC Scorecard for Sustainable Buildings to support and encourage every country to #BeBoldOnBuildings in their NDC submissions, due next year.   The Scorecard tool will allow all policymakers, Green Building Councils and others to assess and compare their countries’ NDCs, and reveal where further action is necessary to increase the ambition and effectiveness of their NDCs and national policies so they are putting the sector on a trajectory for 1.5ºC.   WorldGBC is co-developing the tool with our network, including Green Building Council Brasil, Consejo Colombiano de Construcción Sostenible (CCCS), Egypt Green Building Council (Egypt GBC), Green Building Council Nigeria and Philippine Green Building Council, alongside local stakeholders including governments, to bolster local action that delivers on global priorities. As we begin #BuildingToCOP29, it is absolutely critical that the next batch of #NDCs accelerates the transition and closes the gap to 1.5°C to deliver on the goals of the #ParisAgreement. This can be achieved by not overlooking the role of buildings.   Find out more: https://bit.ly/3YbKdBg  #BuildingTheTransition #BuildingToCOP #BuildingToCOP29 #BeBoldOnBuildings

This is a very important initiative! One tool you could also use while developing your scorecard and assess the status of countries regarding their codes is the World Bank global dataset on building energy efficiency codes.
