🐢 Through its #communityfund, which is linked to our #ActNow sustainability programme, Elia supports organisations such as Cap Terre - a centre that focuses on socio-professional inclusion🤝. 👩🌾 Cap Terre works with adults who have been left out of the labour market or who are changing career paths. It offers up training courses in the areas of organic farming, ecological park and garden maintenance, and sustainable construction. 🌳 Elia's community fund was set up to support areas which have been impacted by our infrastructure projects🏗. As part of this, financial backing is offered up to citizen projects which contribute to sustainable development and the green transition. The community fund is managed by Be Planet, a non-profit organisation that supports sustainable projects in Belgium. The fund forms part of the Group's ActNow programme, which is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. When designing Mileway’s ESG strategy, we aligned our thinking with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including number 11: ‘Building sustainable cities and communities’. Helping out in the places where we operate is a win-win – for us, our customers, our employees and all the people who live and work nearby. Our Mileway Acts programme, launched April 2023, lets employees suggest local charities and initiatives for us to support, as long as they focus on inclusive education, or building sustainable urban environments. It’s one way in which we are fulfilling our commitment to give all Mileway employees the chance to get involved in community engagement. How can organizations whose donors care about the planet switch to green without falling into the trap of greenwashing (or promoting false impressions of environmental friendliness)?" - Alison Stine i Nonprofit Quarterly Just as with corporate and political leaders, another very powerful way for #nonprofit leaders to build trust for their organizational climate-focused/driven policies is to be seen leading themselves - via their personal values/choices. Connect the dots for donors/membership. If they note even casually that the Executive Director of said nonprofit #bikes to work or veers #plantbased, that draws a more direct line to why the org is talking about #climate and #sustainability. I'd argue that even more than lightbulb switches and recycling, stakeholders are looking for clues that they can trust the core values of the people behind the organization. That's why I focus all of my advising work and my various platforms (including #LivingChange #podcast) to the idea of #leadership #ClimateInfluence. Consumer/citizen-facing campaigns have just not done the job quickly or powerfully enough. Changing leadership social norms could.
