During the past few months, we at the Circular Buildings Coalition invited ten industry frontrunners—projects and initiatives—to share their ideas on creating demand and overcoming barriers.  Each blueprint project tackles a specific systemic challenge identified in our previous report "Towards a Circular Economy in the Built Environment". I had the pleasure of working with all of them, and we are proud to share their whitepapers containing feasibility studies, risk assessments, and plans for demand creation. Great news! We've published the whitepaper for our project for the Circular Buildings Coalition: a blueprint for city administrations' actions to foster secondary materials markets. The whitepaper explores how London can pioneer solutions to boost reuse through planning policy, public procurement and data standards. Unquestionably, the climate conversation is overwhelming across the built environment right now, with much of the focus on developing new sustainable buildings. While it’s true that new builds can be delivered with more sustainable efficiency, they still emit excessive levels of carbon during the construction phase. Ultimately, the most sustainable buildings are the ones that already exist, and it’s estimated that 80% of the buildings that will be here in 2050 are already built. If the property industry is to reach the UK’s decarbonisation targets, there needs to be an increased focus on renovations and refurbishments of vacant properties across the UK. #ecoconstruction #eco #ecobuilding #netzero #zerowaste #loweremissions #sustainableconstruction #greenconstruction #sustainablebuildings #environmentalmanagement
