📢 Over 1 year in the making! Last week EIT Health published its latest Think Tank report "Implementing the European Health Data Space across Europe" #EHDS https://lnkd.in/exCbr2Mt 🔍 This is the result of a series of national roundtable discussions and stakeholder interviews held across Europe in 2023 which brought together experts from across our vast and diverse network. The report offers practical recommendations for the actors leading the implementation of this health data sharing framework at local, national, and EU levels to ensure a harmonised and inclusive European approach. It was a privilege to attend the launch of the report and mark this milestone at the EIT Health Summit in Rotterdam. EIT Health CEO Jean-Marc Bourez highlighted our organisation's commitment to supporting EHDS implementation: “By focusing on initiatives like the High-Value Care project and education programs, EIT Health aims to bridge the skills gap and facilitate the adoption of EHDS standards across Europe. This approach not only addresses technical requirements but also emphasises the ethical and societal dimensions of health data use.” Sinead A. O'Connor, from Trinity College Dublin and the Ireland-UK EHDS Steering Committee representative spoke on a panel of experts: "More scientific data has been created in the last 5 years than in the entire history of mankind. Harnessing health data for secondary use enables us to build on the extraordinary accomplishments of our age such as connected biosensors, genome sequencing, and artificial intelligence to evolve breakthrough innovations and personalised medicine for patients. The EHDS provides the foundations for combining our knowledge alongside our data to transform healthcare. So... how do you create digital health that actually has an impact - in the long run🤔? An impact on people who are living with a disease, on people who want to prevent disease, on their caregivers, and on the organizations that provide healthcare services to them? That's a question I think about pretty much from the time I get up in the morning to the time I put my head on my pillow at night😅. After all, not only are we tasked with creating something that improves people's lives, we also need to do so in a profitable way - so that our services are still there for people in need in the long run, and so we can earn the money we need for ourselves and our families. However, in many cases these goals can be in conflict - with limited investment options and only 24 hours in a day (!) - you can rarely go for the perfect solution for the patients you want to serve. This means you will create less impact than you wanted to - and instead you have to practice the art of the possible. From 29-31 May, our team joined the 2024 HIMSS Europe Conference (#HIMSS24Europe) held in Rome, Italy. This conference brought together health professionals, scientists, experts and policymakers, among others, on a thought-provoking discussion on tomorrow’s healthcare. 💡🔬   💬 In a panel discussion on the next steps of the European Health Data Space (#EHDS) legislation, Gozde Susuzlu Briggs (EPF’s Senior Programme Manager) highlighted the benefits of EHDS for patients, healthcare professionals and public health, and stressed the need to ensure inclusive implementation.     💬 Valentina Strammiello (EPF’s Director of Strategic Initiatives) joined a discussion on the role of digital portals for patients.
