Seven Greenways: A Cooperative Vision for Water in the Arid West | Design Workshop https://lnkd.in/ghdUqnQz Design Workshop facilitated coalition workshops to gain consensus on objectives and aspirations. Case study examination of successes and confronting failures was a useful framework for identifying pervasive topics. The group discovered large-scale reciprocal efforts that would have the most sustainable success. This was formulated into a 100-year vision for big change to be possible through smaller actions. Before this project, individual cities competed for small local grants, causing a sense of scarcity. This has changed with the plan’s compelling cross-government projects applicability for exponentially greater funding. How to expand access to affordable and resilient #buildingmaterials in informal settlements? This week's It's Material newsletter (and addition to the Building Transformation StoryMap!) spotlights excellent research by International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and affiliates of SDI. (Slum Dwellers International) in Harare and Freetown. The research focuses on the supply chains of building materials in informal settlements. https://lnkd.in/eKbUMU4e This point is so key: "Ensuring affordable and sustainable materials involves more than developing adequate technological solutions; it is mainly about transforming the governance, incentives, regulations, markets and spaces of decision-making" Read the full research piece here, authored by Camila Cociña Marcelle Mardon Alexandre Apsan Frediani: https://lnkd.in/e-mGK2Mv
