Don't skip out on this new report from The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy and the Clooney Foundation for Justice. We, as a policy, research, and advocate community, know a ton about what abusive pretrial detention looks like in Egypt, but do we know what the impact of this practice has been on lawyers and the practice of law? Bookmark and share widely.
NEW: Egypt’s pretrial detention system is opaque, with Egyptian authorities increasingly leveraging the laws and practices around pretrial detention to turn what was meant to be a “measure of last resort” into a potent weapon against dissent. Together with the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s TrialWatch Initiative, we are proud to announce the release of a joint report titled “Pretrial Detention in Egypt: Through the Eyes of Defense Lawyers." By centering the testimonies of 10 defense lawyers practicing in governorates who spoke to TIMEP and CFJ, this joint report aims to highlight the hurdles that Egyptian defense lawyers face in representing individuals in pretrial detention, telling this story from a new vantage point: the eyes of lawyers. Social media activist ,Conflict Resolution , Pak's Security concerns , Pakistan's Foreign Policy ., Critical Terrorism Studies . Self employed & living in Karachi Not associated wid any org abroad or in Pak
WHY SOME ARE MAKING IT A CAUSE TO MALIGN PAK'S SECURITY INSTITUTIONS !!! I asked #EngrAsifAliShah (Sr. Mechanical Engineer acc to his Linked-In profile ) " So you are getting amused at the prospect that perhaps one of our security agency's sector commander will have to appear before a Court ,irrespective of first waiting to see whether the ATC's judge's allegation is correct or not or is it lawful to publicly malign our Armed Forces and security agencies ? Do you realize the repercussions of such "reflex actions" on foreign sponsored war on terror as our soldiers and citizens are being killed in it . Please bother to research and know how this maligning / defamation of our Armed Forces / security agencies is directly proportional to the rise in acts of terror in Pak . There might be black sheep in our security apparatus ..there might be officers who might be guilty of misconduct but is it fair to wage a campaign against our own Armed Forces and security agencies as has been the case since IK was ousted from power through a constitutional move ? We heard it was unlawful to discuss a matter when it was subjudice Then we saw an era of the PTI when everything subjudice was discussed by media and the same trend goes on . The problem with this is, people and media affect the proceedings of the case in the Court by controlling perceptions according to their own whims being part of an orchestrated campaign . So as responsible citizens we should refrain from giving judgements prior to the Judge having the opportunity to even seen proof of the allegations against Govt officials
